If you didn’t have a chance to see it in the cinema earlier in the year, you can now enjoy Early Man from the comfort of your own home as the Aardman animation is now out on DVD and Blu-ray.

Set at the dawn of time, when prehistoric creatures roamed the earth, Early Man tells the story of courageous caveman hero Dug (Redmayne) and his best friend Hognob as they unite his tribe against a mighty enemy, Lord Nooth (Hiddleston), and his Bronze Age City to save their home.

I was likely enough to see and review my second most anticipated film of 2018 and watching it again, it doesn’t disappoint. However, I still think it doesn’t match the top tier work from the studio but is an enjoyable family film for jokes for both kids and adults.

The voice work of all the cast was great but the highlights were obviously the two leads, Redmayne as the underdog caveman Dug bring innocent and heroism. The on the other side of the bronze coin, Hiddleston as Nooth and I don’t know why, it might be a British thing, but the over the top Allo, Allo French accent still brings a smile.

As for the film itself, the animation is beautiful, the story is the simple underdog story of a bunch of misfits taking on the elite all wrapped in a sports film with the heart of Aardman.

Meanwhile, the Blu-ray was packed full of features and some get behind the scenes footage that lovers al BTS’ will just love. The main thing you’ll take away is how much love there was put in by every crew and cast member and the love everyone has for Nick Park.

Verdict

It’s the ideal family film to watch during the kids are off school and it has things that kids and bigger, older kids alike will enjoy.
