Geoff Johns Leaves DC Entertainment But Will Write & Produce Green Lantern Corps

If you didn’t believe DC Films chief Walter Hamada was the sole controller of the DC movies moving forward, you’ll believe it now.

After Diane Nelson was basically fired as DC Entertainment president and left Warner Bros, it was revealed fellow DCE president Geoff Johns was stepping down from his role (which included being Chief Creative Officer at DC Comics) but will be staying within the Warner Bros family and will continue to contribute to DC projects.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Johns has signed a writer and producer deal with the studio and this will effectively remove him from the business/ boardroom dealings regarding DC Universe films and return to his roots of writing.

The first job he’s been given is something very formula as he’ll be penning the script of Green Lantern Corps.

This is great news as Johns receive acclaim for his Green Lantern comic book run putting him on the map becoming the best writers DC had for years. So it only makes perfect sense for him to return to the characters and world that got him started.

On his Mad Ghost Productions website, it confirms Hal Jordan and John Stewart will, in fact, be the lead characters and the hopes of the space buddy cop movie still alive.

Johns already has under his belt a writing and producing credit for Wonder Woman 2 and a co-writing and executive producing credit for Aquaman.

However, I'd like to know what happened with David Goyer's GLC script as the man who wrote Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and Man of Steel I'd to know what his take on the Green Lanterns looked like.

This deal is basically a golden ticket for Johns as he’s still involved with the company he clearly loves and yet wanting to improve as a movie producer and earn them. Additionally, he won’t have to dick around with the management bollocks while still being a consultant to Hamada.

If anything this deal shows a future thinking from WB/DC as after having a number of producing credits under him, Johns could replace Hamada as the head of DC Films Production once Hamada moves on in a few years.

Finally, as someone who's unemployed if you're looking for runners, I'd happily send over a CV.
