Now everything behind the scenes has been confirmed for James Bond 25, it’s been reported producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson are looking at casting their villain.
The frontrunner at the moment and the one the Bond bosses want to cast is Helena Botham Carter.
According to a Daily Mirror source, “Everyone thinks Angelina Jolie is going to get the part but bosses want Helena more. At the moment they are just finalising the cast.”
Carter is no stranger to villain roles playing Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter franchise. Additionally, the fact Broccoli and Wilson want the 52-year-old actress over a worldwide bankable star like Jolie speaks, to me at least, volumes that this role could be fantastic.
On the other hand, if Jolie is cast then she’ll be reuniting with Daniel Craig having previously starred together in 2001’s Tomb Raider.
I think going for Carter would be a superb choice and briefly speaking to filmmaker, geek pundit and lifelong Bond fan Robert Meyer Burnett gave a great idea as to how the role could be played.
I'd love to see her as part of something completely new. Someone, say, hell bent on destroying the patriarchy on a global scale, with absolutely the intelligence and cunning to pull it off. The ultimate #MeTo antagonist against the ultimate "Sexist, misogynist dinosaur." https://t.co/xRnKFhdPBd— Robert Meyer Burnett (@BurnettRM) 4 June 2018
The Bond franchise, it's DNA, is really from another era. So why not have a villain who's interested in completely destroying the Bond archetype from an In-Universe perspective...? Not meta...but clever. https://t.co/4o5P6cK7uR— Robert Meyer Burnett (@BurnettRM) 4 June 2018
My only reserved thought would be to Burnett’s idea is I’d be worried by the backlash from today's hardcore feminist, the MeToo movement and then you have the general dickheads.
However, as Burnett points out if director Danny Boyle along with the producers and Carter were clever to make her the person to tear down everything Bond has stood for and be seen as for decades then it would be fantastic to watch.

It could also be the perfect way to end Craig’s ageing Bond before bring in someone younger and fresh-faced.
Finally, don’t make Carter’s villain Russian, basically think of her as a villainous version of Dame Judi Dench’s M with an English accent obviously.
It was recently confirmed that Boyle will be directing and filming will begin in December for a UK 25th October release with Universal getting a hold of the International rights.
Meanwhile, it was recently rumoured Dua Lipa could be singing the new Bond song and as a British singing talent with a killer voice, she would be a great choice. Yet, the rocker in me would love to see Foo Fighters take a shoot like Chris Cornell’s You Know My Name from Casino Royale, which is easily one of the best modern Bond songs behind Skyfall by Adele.
Then after doing a truly kick-ass job working on the score for Solo: A Star Wars Story, John Powell should get the job.
