In the press release, Disney has confirmed they’re making a 101 Dalmatians spin-off called "Cruella" with Emma Stone in the title role, as well as a handful of sequels including "Jungle Book" and "Maleficent".
Angelina Joile will be returning to play Maleficent, but it’s
odd as this got a lot of mixed reviews. However, the film audiences and critics
will be most excited for, including myself, is The Jungle Book and returning to
the wild will be director Jon Favreau and writer Justin Marks.

The other sequel, which doesn’t need a sequel or EVER, EVER be touched, is "Mary Poppins" with Emily Blunt and Lin Manuel-Miranda starring and Rob Marshall (Chicago) directing. Tim Burton has also set his sights on another Disney character and after spending so much time in Wonderland he will be directing the live-action Dumbo.
Don’t get me wrong, Emily Blunt is one of the best actresses
working today, but I have this weird taste in my mouth that Disney wants to go
back to the magical world of Mary Poppins. This film is perfect and doesn’t need
to be touched.
The company also announced a handful of other projects, including Ava DuVerney’s adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s “A Wrinkle in Time”, a Tinker Bell project starring Reese Witherspoon, “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” directed by Lasse Hallstrom (My Life as a Dog) and “Jungle Cruise” with Dwayne Johnson set to lead.
With all press releases, dates can be changed depending
where they are in planning/development and they could easily fall off the slate.
However, what this shows is how confident Disney has become making live action
adaptations of their classic fairy tales after the success of The Jungle Book, Cinderella,
Alice in Wonderland and Maleficent.
It doesn’t stop there with “Alice Through the Looking Glass”
and “Pete’s Dragon” set for release in the upcoming months and then early next
year “Beauty and the Beast” becomes live-action starring Emma Watson as Belle
and Dan Stevens as Beast.
