The fact this film got made and is released is a story in itself. Jane Got A Gun has had a messy time getting on screen only Natalie Portman and Joel Egerton have stuck with the project.

The film was originally going to be directed by Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin), with Portman as Jane Hammond, Egerton as villain John Bishop and Michael Fassbender was in talks to play Jane’s ex-lover Dan Frost. Fassbender had to leave the film due to his commitment to X-Men: Days of Future Past, which led to Jude Law being cast as Bishop and Egerton playing Frost. However, Ramsey and Law both left the project and Gavin O’Conner (Warrior) signed on to direct.

O’Conner then brought in new writers to rewrite the script; Bradley Cooper was announced to be playing Bishop and then left five days later to film American Hustle. Finally, Ewan McGregor was cast as Bishop.

After all this chopping and changing and rewrites Jane Got A Gun tells a basic story about Jane Hammond (Portman) attempting to flee with her family from a gang of killers, led by John Bishop (McGregor), who were responsible for shooting her husband (Emmerich) and kidnapping one of her children.

As you can see all the issues this film had taken its toll, especially on the script, as it’s pretty basic and predictable. It’s just boring; there wasn’t anything to keep me entertained.

It’s nothing against the cast, it’s just the film is so bland it’s tasteless and no one can say this was a job well done. Maybe apart from McGregor, who played the villain so cartoony it was the only enjoyable thing.

Verdict
With all the issues getting the film made was a miracle, the end result is just a boring, bland Western.
