La La Land Tip Toes To 11 Nominations At This Year's BAFTA Awards + Full List Of Nominations

IMAGE VIA LIONSGATE

Two days after sweeping the Golden Globes La La Land has once again leads the charge during award season this time picking up 11 BAFTA nominations.

However, the Damien Chazelle directed feel-good musical didn’t have only its own way with Arrival and Nocturnal Animals leading the fightback receiving nine nominations followed by Manchester by the Sea with six.

Then just behind them with five nominations each are Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, I, Daniel Blake (a film no one in the US would’ve heard of), Lion and Hacksaw Ridge. Finally, Moonlight and Florence Forster Jenkins have received four nominations each.

Battling it out for the top honour of Best Film are Arrival, La La Land, Moonlight, Manchester by the Sea and the small UK film I, Daniel Blake. Which I didn't want to see because it looked overrated, annoying and I didn't want the political message beating me over the head.

Obviously, the BAFTA awards are to celebrate not only the best in world film but also the best in British cinema and by god we’ve been brilliant. Not only with I, Daniel Blake mixing with the big boys, but also on and off screen.

Emily Blunt was the surprise inclusion for best actress for her performance in The Girl on the Train while in the supporting actress category I, Daniel Blake star Hayley Squires will go toe to toe against Michelle Williams (Manchester by the Sea) and Viola Davis (Fences).

Then there’s a triple threat for supporting actor between Dev Patel (Lion), Hugh Grant (Florence Foster Jenkins) and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nocturnal Animals), while Taylor-Johnson’s Nocturnal Animals director Tom Ford and Ken Loach (I, Daniel Blake) will be competing for best director.

I can honestly say this is one of the strongest years BAFTA has ever had. Here’s the full list of nominees and if you don't want to see all the nominees, best animated film is the last of the main categories, with MY PICKS TO WIN IN BOLD and you'll see one of two (wildcards).
