Fantastic Four Fancast

IMAGE VIA MARVEL

Even though I’m against the merger of Disney and Fox and think this is a bad thing for the movie industry, there’s one property that deserved to go back to its owner after three poor adaptations with the Fantastic Four coming home to Marvel.

I’d set up the characters in the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, as there was a question, left unanswered in the original film, who bought Stark Tower? It could be revealed at the end of the film Reed Richards purchased the tower and it’ll become the Baxter Building.

This is a popular theory on the Collider Video Heroes Youtube show and I think it's a brillaintly way to introduce these characters.

Additionally, Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 (obviously it’ll have a new and better name) will be the first film Marvel Cinematic Universe post the events of Avengers 4. So introducing a new team in the MCU, besides the Avengers, will give new life to the franchise.

So the question fans also have is who will play these iconic four characters when they come into this universe.

Reed Richards (Mr Fantastic)

IMAGE VIA MARVEL

This could be an actor between the ages of 30 – 50 because I’m such there are fans who want to see Reed Richards to be older and have grey hair showing.

If you wanted to go on the younger side of things and have the group grow then maybe looking at someone like Sam Claflin, who at 31-years-old will likely make people think of the Miles Teller casting, but in recent films has shown some brilliant acting especially 2018’s World War One drama Journey’s End where he’s a lead with flaws.

The other youngster I was thinking of was Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the acting credits of the 34-year-old speak for themselves.

However, I do think those casting would have a negative social media response. The one that would light Twitter up, in a positive way, would be Ewan McGregor.

At 46-years-old he would be the perfect age for fans to agree and the fact being Obi-Wan Kenobi helps in the nerd world and it could be added he’s a better choice compared to fellow Brit Claflin and Gordon-Levitt.

Finally, I’m all for Marvel to change the character of Richards as he doesn’t have to be a brown-hair white dude. Which is why David Oyelowo would be a superb choice and play Martin Luther King so brilliant will help with any fears people would have.

Being 41-years-old would be a decent balance of being of age for the character and build at least a trilogy of Fantastic Four films around.

Wildcard – Rami Malek

Sue Storm (Invisible Woman)

IMAGE VIA MARVEL

For Sue Strom I think you’d need her to be younger than Reed, roughly 5 – 10 years depending on who you cast as Reed, and also slightly older than her brother Johnny Storm.

If Marvel went for a younger Reed like Claflin or JGL then the two actresses in mind would be 28-year-old Imogen Poots or Lucy Boynton (who is only 23-years-old) but both actresses are one franchise away from becoming breakout stars.

Elsewhere, you could also have Blake Lively, who could work well off JGL and at 30-years-old they’d make a decent partnership. However, I do think a better actress is 32-year-old Carey Mulligan because she’s a bit of darling in the indie scene and it feels she’s one film/franchise away from becoming a massive star.

Meanwhile, I think both would also work well with an older Richards like McGregor or Oyelowo.

Personally, I do prefer seeing an older Reed on screen and I think Rosamund Pike would be a brilliant Sue to star opposite either actor.

The 38-year-old would be a perfect age and has the talent to a) make this comic book nonsense believable,  b) go toe-to-toe with Reed and be a leader in her own right and c) be a convincing scientist.

Pike also star alongside Oyelowo in 2016’s A United Kingdom.

Wildcard – Alison Brie

Johnny Storm (Human Touch)

IMAGE VIA MARVEL

You could make Johnny either a teen or someone in his early 20s. If he was still a teenager it would make sense, if you want to introduce the F4 in Spider-Man, to have Johnny go to the same school as Peter Parker.

The first young actor that comes to mind is Nick Robinson and the 22-year-old is in line to become a breakout star thanks to teen films Everything, Everything and Love, Simon. Robinson also stars in Jurassic World and has the face you’d believe is still a high schooler like Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.

Saying with the high school angle for a minute, Disney could look to bring one of their own up (similar to Zendaya) with 17-year-old Cameron Boyce, who is best known for the Disney Channel movie Descendents.

If you wanted to make Johnny a bit older and have him as a college student then someone like Dylan O’Brien would be ideal and with the Maze Runner franchise, he’s a known name. However, I’m sure there are plenty of DCEU fans wanting to see the 26-year-old as Nightwing.

Wildcard – John Boyega

Ben Grim (The Thing)

IMAGE VIA MARVEL

The most important thing I think they need to for this Fantastic Four reboot is to make Ben Grim the heart of the films, especially the first one.

The only actor I could think of is Ben Foster as the 37-year-old would bring so much emotion to the character as someone who is seen as ugly by everyone but has a beautiful soul.

I also think Foster would play the inner turmoil wonderfully as well as getting annoyed by Johnny.

Victor von Doom (Doctor Doom)

IMAGE VIA MARVEL

Even though Marvel doesn’t give a shit about its villains, I do think Kevin Feige knows the fans want to see Doctor Doom sitting on his throne in Latveria.

It depends on what routine Marvel would go with Doom as either Reed’s friend turn enemy or go with a more traditional comic book routine and have him come from to the Eastern European country visit America and makes a machine that blows in his face.

The first actor comes to mind is Game of Thrones’ Nikolaj Coster-Waldau or you have Rufus Sewell as both actors could easily play villains and audiences’ will know both the 47-year-old and 50-year-old actors respectfully.

However, whilst I was out for a walk Oscar Isaac would be someone fantastic as a villain and I’m sure people would point towards Ex Machina as an example of his darker side. On the other hand, fans could also fancast the 38-year-old as Reed Richards.

Wildcard – Joaquin Phoenix

Finally, with all these options this would be my Fantastic Four:

David Oyelowo – Reed Richards/ Mr Fantastic
Rosamund Pike – Sue Storm/ Invisible Woman
Nick Robinson – Johnny Storm/ Human Touch
Ben Foster – Ben Grim/ The Thing
Oscar Isaac – Victor von Doom/ Doctor Doom
