After being pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed season one of Lucifer when it came to reviewing season two and it’s 18 episodes (up from first seasons 13) it was with joy and this season has improved on its previous.

In Season Two, Lucifer (Tom Ellis) and his brother angel, Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside), who’ve been sparring over Lucifer’s resistance to returning to the underworld, will now be brought back together for one common goal – to find their mother (Tricia Helfer), who’s escaped Hell. After all, Lucifer doesn’t take after his dad, so the parent he does resemble is sure to be quite terrifying.

Similar to last season, Ellis is the show’s MVP with all the sexiness, charm and humour and he shows he’s a decent actor as this season he was able to play with more emotions whenever he’s opposite Helfer (who also does a good job as Lucifer’s mum.

The chemistry with German’s detective is as strong as ever and especially Woodside as you can see they go back as if they were children and it’s enjoyable to watch.

Furthermore, Fox and Warner Bros Records should really be looking into releasing an album from the two seasons of Ellis playing cover songs on the piano. As for Woodside, he’s got to be in the running for John Stewart in Green Lantern Corps.

The biggest characters come in the form of Amenadiel and surprisingly Brandt’s Maz who becomes more than a sexy demon.

I still have issues with the “they solve it every week” aspect, but it’s not a big issue because as Lucifer said “Crime-solving devil, it makes sense. Don’t overthink it” and I think this is why I enjoy it so much because it is that simple. Plus, growing out the cast is a major bonus with newcomer Aimee Garcia and Rachael Harris being more an important member of the show.

It’s a show you can watch with the family.

If you haven’t already, give the show a go either on DVD or Amazon Prime and you’ll be binge-watching both shows without issue and enjoy it. I did it recently, over the past 10 days I was on holiday I was watching his handsome devil and getting a tan.

Verdict

An enjoyable season and show and Ellis is just wonderful as the lead. The supporting cast helps make the show what it is and their chemistry gets more fun with every episode.
