The BAFTA’s have announced the nominees for their first award the EE Rising Star today (4th January) and it could be the toughest year to pick a winner.

In a ceremony in London, the five candidates up for the award are Daniel Kaluuya, Tessa Thompson, Florence Pugh, Josh O’Connor and Timothee Chalamet.

As you can see its incredibly hard to see who could win as you pick one but then talk yourself out of that choice and go with someone else as everyone of these nominees deserves to win.

Kaluuya, who’s up for a Golden Globe, won worldwide praise for his performance in Jordan Peele’s horror/thriller Get Out. The London-born actor set to appear in the upcoming Marvel film Black Panther this February.

I still know Kaluuya best from his role as Agent Tucker in Johnny English: Reborn.

He’s not the only Marvel star in the running, as the female lead of Thor: Ragnarok, Thompson also deserves the award. The American actress got noticed for her role in Dear White People before starring as Diane Nash in Selma and was followed up by roles in the Rocky spin-off Creed and US TV series Westwood.

Meanwhile, Chalamet, who won praise for his performance in Call Me By Your Name. The 22-year-old played Armie Hammer’s love in the film and been tipped to do well during this awards season.

The American actor previously appeared in Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi Interstellar and the smash hit TV show Homeland. He also has a role in Gerta Gerwig’s directorial debut comedy-drama Lady Bird opposite Saoirse Ronan.

Kaluuya isn’t the only British talent as O’Connor was a breakout star thanks to his lead role in the British film God’s Own Country. His other big screen appearances include his debut in The Riot Club followed by The Program and Florence Forster Jenkins.

I best know from the incredibly charming ITV show The Durrells as Lawrence “Larry” Durrell.

Finally, another actress who made 2017 as breakout year was Pugh due to her performance in the 2016 film Lady Macbeth, which got critical acclaim and has recently won the 22-year-old a couple of awards.

She’s recently finished filming Netflix’s Outlaw King with Chris Pine and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. While on the big screen she's starring in horror film Malevolent, the thriller The Commuter (which is out in a couple of weeks) and as WWE superstar Paige for the comedy Fighting With My Family.

As I said above, this is going to be a close call, but even though Thompson and Kaluuya are the favourites, Pugh will win and O’Connor will be the dark horse.
