Crazy Rich Asians is taking America by storm taking over $117 million at the box office and followed by $137 million worldwide before its major international release and this was on a $30 million.
So it’s simple to say this romantic comedy a massive smash hit, to the point a lot of the cast will be in demand and on Hollywood’s casting lists for major franchises.
So for a bit of fun lets predict where some of these cast and director Jon M. Chu will go to next.
Let’s quickly look at director Chu. In the foreseeable future, he’s already lined up to helm the sequel, a couple of TV projects and In The Heights, which will be his next movie.
However, I believe this will now take a backseat to work on the sequel and get it realised in the next two years.
Away from this, I won’t be surprised if next year there’s announcement from Marvel that Namor is entering the MCU and if the rights issue with Universal can be sorted a solo film will be on the way and with Chu’s background in action movies like G.I. Joe: Retaliation will be on the top of Kevin Feige’s list.
On the other hands, Chu could become a Warner Bros and with how wonderfully he handled the female characters I’d offer him Gotham City Sirens as it would be a lower budgeted DCU film following in the footsteps of Cathy Yan with Birds of Prey.
This is an easy one for me because I’ve been wanting Golding for this character when I saw the first ever trailer and it was made concrete by watching the film that Golding NEEDS to be top of Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson’s list to be the next James Bond!
Golding has everything to be Bond, he’s charming, charismatic, handsome and sexy as hell.
At 31-years-old he could carry the franchise for the next 15 years getting at least five movies.
Depending what happens with Henry Cavill as Superman and hopefully, he can be in the role for years to come. However, Golding would also be an ideal choice to become Clark Kent and lead the new DCU with a new Batman and Wonder Woman.
Out of everyone on this list I had trouble of placing Wu in a franchise.
I did think of Poison Ivy and we could see a different side of her and staying with DC possibly a future Lois Lane?
If anything I could see Wu doing something similar to Isla Fisher and do comedies and low budget projects.
Chan is set to enter the superhero genre playing Minn-Erva in Marvel’s Captain Marvel next year but it’ll be unknown if she’s a one and done film.
If that is the case, I fully hope DC offers her the role of Catwoman in the DCU because she’d be brilliant as Selina Kyle.
Awkwafina should be Jubilee whenever X-Men are introduced into the MCU as she’s the ideal woman to play this role.
Crazy Rich Asians will be Mizuno’s breakout role but Netflix series Maniac will also hopefully help.
There are two Marvel roles Mizuno should keep an eye on, one would likely be more supportive as Psylocke in the MCU’s X-Men.
The other would be the lead role in Sony’s Marvel world as Silk aka Cindy Moon.
The last one will be Hii as he’s already been cast in Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Even though, Hii was more of a non-speaking support character in Crazy Rich Asians he is a good actor and someone I remember from his Neighbours days and recently seen him in TV show Harrow.
As for his role in Spider-Man, I wouldn’t reveal his name until the post-credits scene but throughout the film be an English friend of Peter Parker’s.
Hii talks about his father who is a businessman who made his money in Asia before moving into Europe and is now looking to take on a new challenge and take over America.
In the post-credits scene, Parker is back in Midtown School and Hii is introduced as the new boy as teacher introducing him to the class as Harry Osborn standing next to his father Norman played by Ken Watanabe.
