Arthur Curry is seen as the man to join the worlds of mankind and Atlanta together, but what James Wan as done with Aquaman is something even more impressive by being the bridge from the old DCEU under Zack Snyder and the new lead by DC Films chief Walter Hamada working out beautifully.

Aquaman (Momoa) is the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime – one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be…a king.

This is an incredibly entertaining film with endless joy as Wan created a truly futuristic epic blockbuster. The world he created is beautiful and a big step in filmmaking similar to Avatar and Star Wars were.

There are echoes of the DC of old as Atlantis is jaw-dropping similar to when we were introduced to Krypton in Man of Steel, which is something every director as made own but connected and as always the history lesson is fantastic.

If we talk about the world, then I have to mention the way the speak which was subtle and awesome as the vibration and sonic waves makes perfect sense.

We also got to see Wan have fun bringing underwater monsters to life and The Trench looked terrifying.

Meanwhile, Jason Momoa is Arthur and the badass I remember from the Justice League Animated series with clear nods to The New 52 comics. He is quippy but not in the annoying way in which is sometimes shown in the MCU. Additionally, as the film progresses shows the heart to be a hero now hopefully in the sequel we can see Arthur the leader.

What I love the most and which will see more it’s the Māori influence. From the tattoos, how Aquaman position himself for battle and even had a war cry. Now moving forward let’s see the Atlantean army do a haka.

Elsewhere, Heard as Mera and Wilson as King Orm nearly still the film. It can be argued that this could be as much of Mera’s movie then Aquaman’s and it equally a badass to the point she’s stronger than both Arthur and Orm.

As for Wilson’s Orm, he’s a villain who makes a great point like “yeah, we are awful people and should drown.” What I liked most about Wilson is the fact he looked like the classic version comic version of Arthur.

I even understood Abdul-Mateen II becoming Black Manta to which I say he’s fucking awesome and hope to see him in future DC films and not only Aquaman sequel but also Suicide Squad and if they ever do the Legion of Doom for Justice League.

Finally, Kidman is all kinds of YAS QUEEN!!

One of the crown jewels of the DCEU is the music and this continues mixing classic film scores and techno with Rupert Gregson-Williams doing back-to-back DC movies after making a masterpiece with the music for Wonder Woman.

The only negative I have is it would’ve been nice to spend some more time in the other Kingdoms but fully understand why they skipped a big chunk of it.

Verdict

This is a fucking incredible, beautiful underwater adventure epic. Wan had bridged the old and new DCEU, JASON MOMOA IS AQUAMAN but the film was nearly stolen by Heard and Wilson.
