Aquaman Sequel Officially Finds A Writer & The Trench Spinoff

To the surprise of no one, Aquaman 2 has officially begun working as the writer for the original film is penning the script.

The overly long name of David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who frequently collaborates with James Wan, is returning after co-writing the first Aquaman film with Will Beall based on a story by Wan, Beall and Geoff Johns.

Wan and Peter Safran will be serving as producers and I’m guessing WB and Wan are working things out on a new deal for him to return with a massive pay bonus as Aquaman became the highest grossing DC film since The Dark Knight Rises and the studios first billion-dollar box office since 2012’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

This report from The Wrap follows last weeks confusing and odd story revealed by The Hollywood Reporter that WB is looking to doing an Aquaman spinoff based on The Trench.

The studio has even hired screenwriters Noah Gardner and Aiden Fitzgerald to pen a story with Wan no doubt be attached as a producer.

However, the questions of what? And why? And more like FFS from plenty of DC movie fans and comic book film fans while scratching their heads, but filmmaker Wan tweeted about how this came about the first place without confirming anything.

Look I get the idea behind it as it could be the first horror film in the DC Universe and it could be incredibly low budget similar to Wan’s Conjuring universe and the potential is there.

As the film explained, the Trench were once Atlanteans who sunk to the deepest part of the ocean when Atlantis fell and had to evolve to survive. This would make the ideal story for a body horror seeing these Atlanteans slowly turn into these murderous monsters.

It just mental to think that WB and DC Films head chief Walter Hamada have found writers for The Trench, yet it seems no one has the perfect pitch for Man of Steel 2, while Nightwing, Deathstroke, Green Lantern Corps, Cyborg, The Flash, Blue Beetle and others are in some sort of development.

I think to fans these projects are more important than a spinoff based on creatures in the Aquaman movie. Additionally, if these creatures are so important then have them in the sequel with Black Manta as their leader to bring the fight to Aquaman, Mera and Atlantis.

If they were announcing spinoff’s everyone would’ve thought Amber Heard’s Mera would’ve been the first one to get off the ground, but I’m sure this will be another project announced soon and in development.
