At the fourth time of asking Leonardo DiCaprio finally won
the Leading Actor award at the BAFTAs for his performance in The Revenant and
is now looking like to be a formality he will also be holding an Oscar in a
couple of weeks. While his director Alejandro G. Inarritu won Best Director and
the film won the big award of the night beating the likes of The Big Short,
Brigde of Spies, Carol and Spotlight to take home Best Film.

Mad Max: Fury was also a big winner picking up four awards
and dominating the technical categories.
It was also a good night for the Brits with Mark Rylance and
Kate Winslet winning the Best Supporting awards for Bridge of Spies and Steve
Jobs respectfully, while John Boyega took home the Rising Star Award and Amy
collecting Best Documentary.

Much like DiCaprio, Brie Larson’s domination of this awards
season continues as now she can add the BAFTA for Leading Actress for her
incredible and breathtaking performance in Room. Larson took to Instagram to
express her joy as she’s in Australia at the moment filming Kong: Skull Island.
The ceremony itself was brilliant as it tries to be as serious as the Oscars, but it also injects some lightheartedness to the evening with things such as the Kiss Cam.
As always Stephen Fry continues to do a fantastic job as
host and adds a real sense of Britishness to make it stand out from the other
award ceremonies.
The Oscar controversy was still a hot topic with Rebel Wilson
and Sasha Baron Cohen taking digs at the all white award show. Wilson stole the
night with her hilarious introduction of the Best Supporting Actor award.
