Who's The Next James Bond?

Ever since Daniel Craig was doing the press tour for Spectre the likelihood of him hanging the tux and leaving the martini glass behind was incredibly high and his whole body language and attitude Craig looked tired and saying he would rather “slash his wrists”.

Even the end of Spectre seemed to be the perfect ending for Craig’s Bond run, but it needs to be pointed out he still has one film left in his contract.

However, it does look like the 47 years old could be signing up to do a TV series called Purity, which will run for several seasons with 20 episodes each. A decision hasn’t been reached whether Craig does return to Bond, but if he does sign up for Purity it doesn’t mean he won’t be back playing Bond.

If he does decide to go then MGM will need to find a new James Bond, here are my choices.

Tom Hardy and Idris Elba
Both of these are firm favourites with audiences and even Ladbrooks have stopped taking bets on the Mad Max: Fury Road star. Both actors ooze cool and are incredibly handsome and sexy, qualities the character must have. However, in the case of Hardy it’s more of a scene of the studio wants him more than he needs them.

Elba is on the rise, ever since the highly popular BBC series Luther and fans want him to be the first black Bond, but that could be exactly what turns him off the role, saying “I just don’t want to be the black James Bond,” adding “Sean Connery wasn’t the Scottish James Bond and Daniel Craig wasn’t the blue – eyed James Bond so if I play him I don’t want to be called the black James Bond.”

Tom Hiddleston
“I’d like to bring a certain Britsh charm to the part,” Hiddleston said about the role and after his turn in The Night Manager (which I need to watch on the iPlayer) fans took to Twitter to campaign. However, despite having all the credentials, he’s still only 35 year old and maybe too young to play Bond at the moment. This image is from his new film High Rise.

Chiwetel Ejiofor
He has all the credentials and has an incredibly talented actor and is diverse from 12 Years A Slave to complex villain roles such as Triple Nine and in Marvel’s Doctor Strange. Personally, he’s my top choice as he can be charming, handsome and he’s got the acting pedigree to bring multiple layers to the character.

Aidan Turner
The Irish actor largely unknown to the worldwide audience, but his role in Poldark got all the women hot under the collar and I recommend watching the three part BBC drama And Then There Were None and was truly brilliant, and much like Hiddlestone, fans took to Twitter to campaign.

I have to say he’s got a lot from looks (I mean, did you see the famous Poldark image?), charm and again like all the other contenders showed depth in And Then There Were None. However, even though I think he’s perfect with the classic Sean Connery look much like Pierce Brosnan, but at 32 years old I think he’s much too young.

Let me know what you think. Is Hardy the right man? Are Hiddleston and Turner too young for the role?
