When you think of Han Solo the next character that comes to mind is his best friend/pet/walking carpet Chewbacca. Only makes sense to see Chewie appear in the young Solo film and now Disney boss Bob Iger have confirmed the Wookie will show up.

Iger was speaking at the highly – popular, must see event, the Deutsche Bank 2016 Media, Internet & Telecom Conference, the Disney chief was talking about the future of the Star Wars franchise.

There’s still an issue about how the two characters meet, a topic which has only been talked about in the expanded universe. This is a subject for directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller and writers Lawrence and Jon Kasdan to cover, but it’s likely they’ll take some ideas from the expanded universe plus Lawrence Kasdan has wanted to do this story for a long time.

Whatever the story is the pressure on Lord and Miller to pick the right actor who can embody the role that Harrison Ford has made iconic is huge. Whoever they cast may not live up to everyone’s expectations and everyone might not be happy how these characters encounter for the first time, but we need to trust in the creative team to pull it off.

The Han Solo film is scheduled to hit cinemas on May 25, 2018.
