After Warner Bros and DC Films blew everyone away with their panel in the morning it was up to Marvel to bring their big guns to show off.
First of all they revealed their brand new logo and I dig
it, it looks very clean and even though a few people prefer the old logo after
13 years and three phases it’s time for a change.
Check out the new Marvel Studios logo that just debuted at #SDCC in Hall H!https://t.co/xUX0WTvCyB— Marvel Studios (@MarvelStudios) 24 July 2016
Next up was a surprise with Ryan Coogler coming out and
talking about he was in the crowd of Hall H in 2009 and now he’s directing
Black Panther. The whole cast came out and the characters they’ll be playing as
a new logo was revealed.

Chadwick Boseman is returning from his show stealing
performance in Captain America: Civil War as Black Panther and he will be
joined by Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Michael B. Jordan is reuniting
with Coogler for the third time as Erik Killmonger and Danai Gurira will be
playing Okoye.

I’ve never read a Black Panther comic so I don’t know who
the characters are, but I know Killmonger was a friend turned villain of T’Challa
so it’s great to see Jordan playing something different. Nakia is sort of a
love interest and I’m not sure about Okoye.
Then came Thor: Ragnarok, and even though they’re shooting
in Australia right now, director Taika Waititi gave fans a little Thor mockumentary
and look at some of the concept of Hulk
in gladiator armour and then they showed the official logo.

I hate this logo. It actually confuses me, why is it in a
video game style? It makes no sense. After showing the new Marvel Studios and
Black Panther logos, Thor: Ragnarok is pretty shit.
Doctor Strange, the studios first panel, was next with
Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tilda Swinton, Mads Mikkelson and
director Scott Dickenson on stage with him saying this film is a “left turn in
the Marvel universe,” to focus on magic instead of sci-fi tech.

Followed by a second trailer and this trailer was trippy as
fuck. It’s got me really interested in this new style of Marvel films and I
want to see it more for the director and the film itself then the actors in the
film.
Then Spider-Man himself Tom Holland came out and shown the
fans a teaser reel of the other Avengers cast as teenagers and the reel ended
with a wait tease of the villain Vulture and concept art was posted online.

Director Jon Watts called Spider-Man: Homecoming “a
straight-up high school movie, about a 15-year old kid. We know what it’s like
to be a billionaire playboy inventor. We learned what it’s like to be an alien
God… We’re going to learn what it’s like to be kid in 10th grade going through
puberty.”
This sounds perfect, I’m not sure comparing it to a John
Hughes film is right at the moment, but if they feel that confident then great.
I’m not expecting to ever see this footage because they’ve
just started filming, but by the time Doctor Strange gets close to release I
wouldn’t be surprise to see a teaser then and the concept art was pretty cool,
nothing special.
Then the other film that’s just finished shooting and had a
panel was Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2.

Director James Gunn come out on stage and was ambushed by
Taserface and his Ravagers who took all the seats and insulted the audience and
jeering Gunn and Kevin Feige.
After a short while Gunn retook control and his cast was
introduced to the stage; Chris Pratt (Star Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave
Bautista (Drax), Karen Gillan (Nebula) and they were joined by new cast members
Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha and newcomer Pom Klementieff as Mantis and finally
Kurt Russell.
Russell then introduced a clip and then Pratt got the audience
to cheering for another clip which showed Sylvester Stallone and unveiled
Russell’s character.
“I thought my good looks
would make it obvious,” Russell says. “My name is Ego. And I’m your dad.”
Ego is a living planet and that’s all I know.
Apart from that revealed, the official logo was released
along with a new Disneyland California Adventure theme part called Mission:
Breakout.
At the end of the panel the whole Marvel family posed for
group photo including a new member BRIE LARSON AS CAPTAIN MARVEL!!!

This was the highlight for me from this pretty average
presentation, Larson is an incredible actress and could easy be one of the best
actresses working in the next couple of
years. Marvel have pulled off a huge coup getting the Best Actress Oscar winner
and now it’s down to the script and director to make this Marvel’s best film
because I think she’s that talented.
