At the end credit scene of Deadpool (arguably the best comic book movie of 2016 and this coming from someone who likes both Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad), the Merc with the mouth promised us in the sequel we’ll see his partner in crime/straight man Cable on the big screen.
Thanks to the audience that made Deadpool over $782 million
dollars worldwide, 20th Century Fox gleefully gave Ryan Reynolds and director
Tim Miller the money to make Deadpool 2 (or whatever the sequel will be
called).
So who will be suiting up as the time-traveling commando
mutant? Well, while talking on Meet the Movie Press, according to Mashable’s
Jeff Sneider who stresses to take this RUMOUR with the biggest grain of salt
possible and the name he has heard flying around is Kyle Chandler (Friday Night
Lights, Carol, and Bloodline).
However, after this news start making the rounds on Twitter,
The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez tweeted this out, followed by this answer to a
followers question:
Chandler was indeed Tim Miller's first choice but again, the studio wants a movie star.— Umberto Gonzalez (@elmayimbe) 13 August 2016
They want Liam Neeson but Tim doesn't. https://t.co/CEswy9A3WX— Umberto Gonzalez (@elmayimbe) 13 August 2016
Here’s fan art by Mark Alvarado of what Chandler would look like as Cable and its brilliant.
Kyle Chandler as #Cable in Deadpool 2. For what it's worth I think this would be awesome pic.twitter.com/X7XYDNf4bh— Mark Alvarado (@FineHijinx) 13 August 2016
It’s a shame studio is still going against what the director wants and you can see why. It made OVER $782 MILLION DOLLARS WORLDWIDE with basically unknowns and Reynolds its only star. However, I am a fan of Liam Neeson and think he’ll be brilliant in the role.
Again, I’ll take the tweet with a huge grain of salt too.
Chandler wasn’t the only name drop Sneider did as he also
mentioned The Martian actress Mackenzie Davis is talked about playing Domino, a
mutant mercenary with luck-altering powers and has a long history with both
Deadpool and Cable.
Then the king of fan art Boss Logic drew this awesome
picture of what Davis would look like as Domino.
Mackenzie Davis is rumoured for the role of Domino in @deadpoolmovie @VancityReynolds pic.twitter.com/xu6V85rT8h— BossLogic (@Bosslogic) 13 August 2016
It must be stressed again that none of this is confirmed and should only be treated as rumour.
Everyone involved that made the original film a blockbuster
success is coming back, Reynolds is be playing Deadpool, Miller is directing and
the real heroes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have also signed on to write
again.
Deadpool 2 is set to start production in early 2017 with a
release date January 2018.
