Ezra Miller Talks Being Motivated By Negative Reviews And "Extremely Fun" Flash Film

It safe to say this week has been a pretty huge week for the DC Cinematic Universe, with news on Man of Steel 2 in development, James Wan talks about Aquaman and we also found out who Jason Momoa face up against in the standalone film.

This all come up on top of Suicide Squad smashing the North American box office record of $135 million dollars in its opening weekend and presently with other box offices around the world included, Suicide Squad as made $304 million dollars worldwide.

The one thing the film didn’t do, which will most likely affect its second weekend BO total, was getting praise from critics and Ezra Miller, who’ll be playing The Flash in the upcoming movies, has openly and maturely talked about the negative reviews being a motivation for his Justice League cast.

Speaking to MTV News, Miller said “You needn’t look any further than the Suicide Squad director and cast response to the negative reviews to feel how negative critiques motivate us,

“Ultimately, we can’t base anything on [the critical response]. As artists, we aim to please absolutely everybody with our work, but we also know that we have to keep expressing ourselves as best as we can express ourselves.”

As for the #Skward haters, Miller simply said “It’s like that T.I. song, ‘Motivation.’”

Away from Suicide Squad, the 23-year-old actor couldn’t contain himself while talking to MTV News about his Flash movie, “It’s a little intense for me because I get goosebumps just thinking about it.”

The one thing most of the negative reviews have highlighted (I personally don’t have an issue with and think the whole thing is ridiculous) is the lack of humour and even though we got a taste with the Justice League footage, Miller has talked about the tone that director Rick Famuyiwa will take it.

“I think there’s just an intention to make something extremely fun and something superhuman and something deeply human,” Miller said. “It’s the thing we’re all trying to do, but I think Rick’s mind and his heart are in an excellent place, and his expertise as a filmmaker, as evidenced by Dope, all come together as very exciting factors to me.”

He goes on to add “It’s hard when talking about Rick to not use the word dope too many times, it’s the Brooklyn in me; dope is a big part of my vernacular.”

Even in that quote, Miller shows his personality and when more news comes out about the standalone film it’ll be hard for every reporter/blogger not to use the word dope. Because it was used when Famuyiwa was announced as the new director and again when Kiersey Clemons, who started in Famuyiwa’s previous film Dope, was cast as Iris West.

The Perks of being a Wallflower star didn’t say too much about his “tough as nails” co-star and leading lady, but this quote shows there's chemistry between the two stars.

“Kiersey is amazing,” he said. “I had the opportunity to read with her and do some explorative acting in our chemistry read ... the results of these experiments clearly were positive. I’m just deeply excited about what these people carry in their hearts, and I’m excited about the radical intention that everybody seems to be bringing to the genesis chamber of this film.”

However, the elephant in the room when talking about The Flash is the highly popular Sky One show and Miller praised his fellow Scarlett Speedster Grant Gustin and hinted towards a possible race in the speed force saying “He’s a boss.”

Adding “I can’t wait to see him, eye to eye, adrift in the Speed Force — our eyes will lock and, in that moment, we will both know the truth. What truth? I dare not say.”

This would be the perfect way to not only make fans loses their fucking minds but also for Warner Bros say we know there’s this awesome TV show with Gustin doing a fantastic job and this is for you.

I think it could be done perfectly if throughout the film just have some hints here and there and in whatever season of the TV show have hints here and there, then have the race to end the film.

Miller is currently in London filming Zack Snyder’s Justice League starring alongside Ben Affleck’s Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Momoa’s Aquaman, Ray Fisher playing Cyborg and Henry Cavill returning as Superman.

Now, it looks like Miller is staying in London for a lot long as production for The Flash starts in the capital in January 2017.
