It turns out being one superhero wasn’t enough for Jason Momoa, as Mashable have confirmed the Game of Thrones star is in talks to be The Crow.
If you don’t know who or what The Crow is, well the story is based on a graphic novel by James O’Barr and has since become beloved for its readers. I first came across it after watching the DVD of the 1994 film starring Brandon Lee and has since become, like the graphic novel, a cult classic.
The Crow follows Eric Draven, who returns from the dead to track down the people who raped and killed is fiancé and avenge her death with the help of a mystical crow.
However, this film has always had an era of darkness around it. Alex Proyas directed the original, which tragically served to be Lee’s final film after an accidental shooting on set.
Then for years it’s been passed from director to director and actors have been attached like Bradley Cooper, Luke Evans and Jack Huston. Furthermore, Relativity, the company who own the rights, went into bankruptcy.
Things are starting to look good for The Crow remake as Corin Hardy (The Hallows) is seen has a rising filmmaker in Hollywood and will be directing and the prospect of adding Momoa has the film’s star is brilliant news.
Momoa posted a picture on Instagram having a pint of Guinness with Hardy with the hashtags #sealthedeal, #greatnewstocome and #dreamjob and many people have told Mashable’s Jeff Sneider, he is in talks and has figured out a way to fit it around his Aquaman duties.
This reboot could also set to be released before Aquaman, which is set for a July 2018.
Personally, I love this film, it’s incredible and would have made Lee a household star away from his father’s shadow (his dad was the famous Bruce Lee) and you can see from the makeup it had to influence Heath Ledger’s Joker. Plus the behind the scenes story of this film is fascinating.
I also love this casting and I believe Momoa would kick so much arse and fans shouldn’t worry he’d be playing two superheroes because they’re completely different as The Crow is a much darker story than Aquaman could ever be.
