The comedy pairing of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly had brought comedies such as Talladega Nights and Step Brothers looks like they’re reteaming again to have a comedy retelling of Sherlock Holmes called Holmes and Watson.
This will be one of many Holmes projects in circulation with the Guy Ritchie directed franchise (if we can call it that) starring Robert Downey Jr and Jade Law and a third film has been rumoured, then you have the Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman successful BBC series Sherlock. Finally the less known, for UK audiences, American series on the character called Elementary starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu.

However, Deadline has revealed Sony think Ferrell and Reilly can add a comic twist to the characters with Etan Cohan, who directed Ferrell in Get Hard (and we know how well that turned out), is set to helm the project and will be writing the script.
This isn’t the first time the comically Sherlock Holmes has been rumoured as Ferrell was set to star as Watson back in 2008 alongside his Nights co-star Sasha Baron Cohen as Holmes, which as now evolved into this movie and sees Ferrell taking up the pipe and wearing the deerstalker. Shooting is set to begin late November/early December.
To be honest, I’m not confident in this project. It’s anything against the idea, I think it could be highly entertaining, it’s firstly I have no confidence in the director and think someone like Adam McKay would make a funny, but also smart film. Now comes the fact I’m not a fan of either Step Brothers or Talladega Nights, I don’t find them funny, and haven’t been a fan of Ferrell’s films for a while.
