It looks like Disney’s dominates of bringing their classic animation films to live action is set to continue with Snow White being the latest by the Mouse House.
It joins an already impressive list, which includes The Lion King, Jungle Book 2, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Mulan, Dumbo and Pinocchio – to name a handful.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney will revamp this adaptation of the iconic 1937 cartoon and will have new music and an updated take on the Brothers Grimm story.
Mary Poppins Returns producer Marc Platt (who’s also rebooting The Little Mermaid alongside Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda) will be helming this project. Even though this Snow White in its early stages, screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson (The Girl on The Train) and songwriting duo Pasek and Paul (La La Land, Fame) are also on board.
It seems Disney was just waiting in the wings after two previous Snow White remakes Mirror Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman (both released in 2012) led to mix reviews. I personally like Mirror Mirror.
Obviously, Disney’s version will have the added bonus of using the animated film as part of their storytelling and will be a different tone to either of the previous attempts.
The next Disney live-action adaptation will be Beauty and the Beast and it’s coming to cinemas March 17, 2017.
