It looks like getting into this reshoot game is a decent way of living as it was revealed Tony Gilroy was earning north of $5 million working on the Star Wars spin-off Rogue One.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gilroy will be pocketing north of $5 million for his efforts after being brought in to help with rewrites and oversee reshoots for the Gareth Edwards-directed film, coming out 15th December.

Originally, Gilroy (whose credits include writing several of the Bourne films and directing the best picture Oscar nominee Michael Clayton) was earning $200,000 a week for helping to write dialogue and scenes for the Rogue One reshoots. By all accounts, this is a normal price for a top writer on a big blockbuster, but the price started to increase as his work and time begin to increase.

Gilroy started working on Rogue One in June, and by August, he was taking more of a co-lead role alongside Edwards during the post production and rumours suggest the reshoots tackled a number of issues including the ending.

You’re right to think the price is steep, but you have to remember this is Star Wars and Disney will get their money back on the opening day of release in the States or if not made it back already with pre-sells.

Meanwhile, this was a drop in the ocean for Disney who spent $4 billion in 2012 for George Lucas’ Lucasfilm and will spend the money needed to keep the brand safe and successful.

Rogue One is the beginning of many planned Star Wars spin-offs/stand-alones from Disney and will be released in alternating years from the episodes. The next standalone will be the young Han Solo coming out in 2018.
