David Ayer Candidly Talks About Suicide Squad Admitting He Would've Done Things Differently

Suicide Squad was a box office success, but let’s not beat around the bush it’s a divisive film with plenty of fans liking it and fans and pretty much all of the critics hating it. Personally, despite the flaws, I see Suicide Squad as a fun, summer action blockbuster.

This weekend a fan tweeted director David Ayer thanking him and saying “it’s a masterpiece” and Ayer took the time to reply admitting “I know Squad has its flaws” and what he would’ve done differently.

It takes a big man to admit his film has flaws, so I have a big respect for David Ayer after posting this reply.

It’s also a reminder to everyone that Ayer is a human with emotions so when he said “Nothing hurts more than to pick up a newspaper and see a couple of years of your blood, sweat and tears ripped to shreds. The hate game is strong out there.” I felt for him like any director, there are many films I don’t like but I’d never tweet them abuse or hate because I could never do what they do.

I do believe what he learnt from Suicide Squad and the idea of him going back and made a more grounded film with The Joker as the main villain will benefit Gotham City Sirens when he says “I have to give the characters the stories and plots they deserve next time.”

Elsewhere, the fact he’s not writing the script will benefit him on focusing on just directing the best, badass female villain/anti-hero film possible and introduce the world a decent Poison Ivy and Catwoman into the DCU as well as build on the success of Margot Robbie and Harley Quinn.

Oddly, I’m pondering because he wants to make amends (as such) to giving fans and Jared Leto a better look and story to The Joker, he’ll be the main villain in GCS and show everyone/teenage fangirls NO ONE should want a Harley/Joker relationship and having Geneva Robertson-Dworet penning the screenplay will hopefully highlight it.

Ayer ended his reply stating “And no, there isn’t a secret edit of the film with a bunch of Joker scenes hidden in a salt mine somewhere.”
