Ridley Scott On Why He Has Turned Down Several Superhero Films

Superhero films are big business in Hollywood, but you can cross off Ridley Scott of any fancasting lists because you will never see him helming a comic book movie.

Scott was speaking to the press including Digital Spy when he told them he has no interest in joining the franchise and wants to keep making what he calls “smart films.”

He added “Superhero movies are not my kind of thing – that’s why I’ve never really done one.
“[I’ve been asked] several times, but I can’t believe in the thin, gossamer tight-rope of the non-reality of the situation of the superhero.

“I’ve done that kind of movie – Blade Runner really is a comic strip when you think about it, it’s a dark story told in an unreal world. You could almost put Batman or Superman in that world, that atmosphere, except I’d have a f**king good story, as opposed to no story!”

It’s not just Marvel or DC, Sir Ridley has decided to have a pop at cinema in general as he thinks “cinema mainly is pretty bad” admitting he’s “concerned its future prospects.

“I want to keep doing cinema and I hope it doesn’t affect those of us who still keep making smart films, I hoping it doesn’t affect me.”

Because The Counsellor was so smart and brilliant. Let's not forget Exodus: Gods and Kings.

Not being funny, but FUCK YOU Ridley. (Before you moan) yes, he’s  allowed to not like superhero films and have an opinion. However, could’ve still made his point by still just saying “superhero movies are not my kind of thing” he could have left it there and moved on.

But NO, he wanted to make all his other “smart” director friends laugh at those who like these films. Meanwhile, he clearly hasn’t watched a superhero film for a while because directors have made smart superhero film with brilliant stories.

For example, the Russo Brothers’ Captain America: The Winter Solider, Chris Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy, Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange and Zack Snyder with Man of Steel and Batman v Superman.

This is just a few and soon we’ll have Black Panther directed by Ryan Coogler, Ben Affleck’s The Batman, Wonder Woman directed by Patty Jenkins, Brie Larson starring as Captain Marvel etc.

Sir Ridley you’re a legend and have made some iconic films, but don’t try and be a billy, big bollocks and look down on comic book movies, it’s not a good look.

Scott’s next big-screen project Alien: Covenant (sixth film in the franchise and a sequel to 2012’s Prometheus) comes out in May.
