Looks like we’ll be meeting the man who taught Han Solo to be a scoundrel and smuggler in the upcoming the Star Wars spinoff.

According to Variety, Hunger Games and War for the Planet of the Apes star Woody Harrelson is in talks with Lucasfilm and Disney for a key role as an unnamed mentor who teaches Han how to fly the Millennium Falcon.

The report also states talks are in the early stages, but Harrelson is the top choice for this role.

“The ensemble had already begun filling with rising stars, but executives wanted this role to go to an actor with considerable clout, and started meeting with actors over the past several weeks.”

The Oscar nominee will be joining an already impressive cast with Alden Ehrenreich as the young Han Solo with Donald Glover as Han’s smooth talking and charming buddy Lando Calrissian.

The mother of Dragan’s Emilia Clarke is also starring, but her role is too unknown, with The Lego Movies Phil Lord and Chris Miller directing.

Production is rumoured to begin this month, so expect more casting news to come out.

To be honest I don’t know what to make of this news. Don’t get me wrong, Harrelson is one of the best actors working in Hollywood, but does Han Solo really need a mentor?

I don’t think a training montage of Han’s mentor helping him flying the Falcon and will go on to make the Kessel run in 12 parsecs. I kind of liked to have seen Solo break it with pure luck, grit and skill.

Also, I always thought if Harrelson did join Star Wars he would’ve been cast as a Sith or Jedi.
