Last night (12th February) was a night the BAFTAs went to La La Land after the superb musical picked up five awards.

As well as winning Best Film, Emma Stone and Damien Chazelle landed the Leading Actress and Best Director respectively and the two final awards it picked up were Original Music and Cinematography.

It wasn’t just a night for the dreamers, but they were also a nice mix of winners that put a spanner in the works when it comes to the Oscars, even if I didn’t necessary agree.

Manchester By The Sea and Lion both won two awards with Dev Patel clinched Best Supporting Actor (I had my fingers crossed for Jeff Bridges) and Lion secured Adapted Screenplay (even though it should’ve been Arrival). Meanwhile, Kenneth Lonergan (Original Screenplay) and Casey Affleck (Leading Actor) won for Manchester By The Sea.

There were awards for Viola Davis (Best Supporting Actress), Kubo And The Two Strings (Best Animated), Ava Duverney’s 13th (Best Documentary), Tom Holland (EE Rising Star) and I, Daniel Blake won Outstanding British Film.

Mel Brooks collected the BAFTA Fellowship and gave the best and most entertaining speech of the night. Check out his acceptances speech below.
