Is Maisie Williams about to follow her Game of Thrones co-star and best friend Sophie Turner and become a mutant and joining the X-Men franchise?

It’s all pointing to that way as New Mutants’s director Josh Boone tweeted an image, which seemingly confirms her involvement in the project.

Boone shared artwork depicting Williams as Rahne Sinclair, aka shapeshifting mutant Wolfsbane.

It’s been a strong rumour that Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) will be playing Wolfsbane and Colossus’s sister Magik, however, 20th Century Fox hasn't official confirmed either actress’ casting.

As well as seeing New Mutant's, Boone has previously promised “some familiar faces” will be showing up in the film with rumours suggesting James McAvoy and Alexandra Shipp will be returning as their X-Men: Apocalypse roles Professor X and Strom.

Little is still known about the film, the only tease we’ve seen is this animated storyboard snippet from Coming Soon showing the team going up against one of the New Mutants iconic villains called the Demon Bear, a psychic monster connects to Mirage and her Native American heritage.

Boone has also previously suggested if things go well, we could see a trilogy of New Mutants films.

No official release date has been confirmed, but Fox did save two dates – 2nd November 2018 and 14th February 2019 – for unknown projects.
