I never saw the 1991 animated classic, but don’t worry Beauty and the Beast is an enchanted, magical and beautiful live – action Disney adaptation.

Beauty and the Beast tells the story of Belle (Watson), a bright and beautiful young woman who’s taken prisoner by a hideous beast (Stevens) in his castle. Despite her precarious situation, Belle befriends the castle’s enchanted staff –Mrs Potts a teapot (Thompson), Lumiere a candelabra (McGregor), Cogsworth a mantel clock (McKellen), Plumette a feather duster (Mbatha – Raw) and many more – and ultimately learns to see beneath the Beast’s exterior to discover the heart and soul of a prince.

I’m fully convinced Emma Watson is a real life Disney princess. She played Belle with delicacy and grace, but also when needed strength and determination.

People may not like her singing compared to the animated film, but I thought she sounded gorgeous and did brilliantly and makes me wonder what she would’ve done in La La Land.

Meanwhile, Stevens as the Beast was great as well. You’ll be glued to him whenever he’s on screen and his chemistry with Watson seeing their characters grow and getting to know each other just makes you smile, but Stevens is overshadowed by Watson.

Elsewhere, whenever you see the Beast in a wide shoot the CGI isn’t the best, but on the other hand, up close it’s superb and the ballroom scene is a great example. It’s beautiful and graceful and then in the wide shot, the CG was clunky.

Besides Watson, another highlight was Evans and Gad as Gaston and Le Fou and they have an equally great chemistry and it’s a clear smart move making Le Fou gay and seeing him full in love with Gaston and Evans play a handsome, arrogant villain really well.

Completing the hat-trick of brilliant chemistry is McGregor and McKellen, who brings a lot of the comedy and humour in the film and want to see a Lumiere and Cogsworth in a buddy spin-off film.

The CGI of the servants were done really well as well and their French accents were fine.

Meanwhile, Emma Thompson just great in everything.

The music in the film was great and I had a big smile on my face. However, at 2 hours 10 minutes, it did feel a little bit too long.

Verdict
Another great addition to Disney live – action adaptation library, a beautiful, enchanted film with Watson just stealing every scene and she is a true life Disney princess.
