Back in 2013, Man of Steel kick started the DC Extended Universe and has been followed up by Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, Justice League and Aquaman coming out in 2018. Let’s not forget there are plans for – The Batman, Gotham City Sirens, Nightwing, Green Lantern Corps, The Flash, Shazam and Black Adam.
However, the one thing the DCU hasn’t done is a straight up sequel to Man of Steel, BvS is more of introducing the DC Universe than a Superman Sequel. Now, it looks like a Man of Steel 2 is high on Warner Bros plans as they’re now looking to bring in British director Matthew Vaughn to helm to project.

According to Collider’s sources, the Kingsman: Secret Service filmmaker Vaughn is WB’s top pick to direct the film and preliminary conversations about the prospect have already begun. However, they stress this isn’t a done deal.

If this deal does come to fruition this wouldn’t be the British filmmaker's first entrance into the superhero/comic book realm, he handles the successful reboot/prequel of the X-Men with X-Men: First Class and was originally going to direct X-Men: Days of Future Past.
He also helms two successful R-rated comic book films – Kick-Ass and Kingsman meanwhile he’s in post-production on the sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle.
This wouldn’t be the first time Vaughn has talked about directing a Superman film. Back in 2010, he and comic book writer Mark Millar pitched their take to Warner Bros before they went with Chris Nolan and David Goyer’s take.
Before Man of Steel started production, Vaughn was asked about his vision for the character saying, “I think that’s the one thing not to do with Superman, trying to do the serious The Dark Knight version. Superman is about colour and fun, or it should be, for me.”
Finally, Collider added similar to being the key in hiring Matt Reeves to direct The Batman, Warner Bros president and CCO Toby Emmerich is interested in Vaughn in helming Man of Steel 2.

Don’t get me wrong I think Matthew Vaughn is an awesome director and loved his most underrated and unseen films Stardust as well as Layer Cake and Kingsman, but I don’t know about his helm Man of Steel 2.
I don’t think he’ll do a bad job actually the opposite and I want him direct a Star Wars spin-off, but if you want a fun and colourful Superman, watch Superman Returns.
Man of Steel is one of the best superhero films ever, it’s in my top five superhero films, and the main reason is because I’ve never connected with the character of Superman and found the Richard Donner films just crap. He was too perfect, it didn’t matter what horrible thing happened Supes would smile, put his thumbs up and carry on and he was unrealistic to me.
Then Man of Steel came out and it wasn’t a Superman movie it was a Clark Kent film similar to Batman Begins and it worked and as a superb film. It dealt with Kent having to deal with beginning this person with god-like abilities and even though he wants to do good, but humans will only see the bad in what could happen.
Then in BvS, everyone knows who he is and is a symbol of fear and Clark has to deal with that without knowing how. To himself, his parents and Lois, he’s more human than Kryptonian and can he be the symbol of hope when everyone hates/fears him. That’s why he sacrifices himself to save his home and people.

Now in Justice League, we’ll see Clark reborn with humans and the world having their saviour back to protect them.
So Vaughn coming in wouldn’t be saving anything because we’ve been on this journey from the beginning and Zack Snyder has done a brilliant job. So I don’t need (or a little want) this sequel just to be bright, colourful and fun, Vaughn is a great storyteller. Give me a great story that builds on what we already have.
If he doesn't give to helm Man of Steel 2, Vaughn is a great director for The Flash or Green Lantern Corps.
