If you’re a fan of the original X-Men Dark Phoenix saga and felt personally disappointed by X-Men: The Last Stand and their utter balls up back in 2006.
So it came to no surprise fans got a little nervous when 20th Century Fox announced the follow-up to X-Men: Apocalypse is focusing once again on Dark Phoenix.
However, the latest rumour is this film could be following the comic book and the Jean Grey story and her dark turn pretty closely, but this should be taken with plenty of salt.
According to Omega Underground, they claim so have seen an audition tape of Halt and Catch Fire’s Toby Huss hinting towards the alien Shi’ar Empire. The actor talks about learning languages and “primitive people”, which could be hinting towards the role being a non-human.
Just to give some background (so you don’t have to), the Shi’ar plays a major role in the original Dark Phoenix saga with the Phoenix being a figure of their mythology. It comes down to earth to judge Jean Grey for the destruction she’s caused and this leads to her death.
The bird-like Shi’ar has a massive, intergalactic empire includes dozens of different planets and race, known for their elite superpowered warriors called Imperial Guard.

If this rumour is to believe, it could match up with the other rumour suggesting Dark Phoenix could finally be taking the X-Men to space and this would be a fantastic opportunity to bring in Shi’ar.
Meanwhile, the fact of this film could be leaning towards the comic idea to the story, something The Last Stand threw away, and the introduction of Shi’ar could get fans excited.
Sophie Turner will be turning as Jean Grey with Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy as well as other actors returning to reprise their roles.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is slated to hit cinemas November 2, 2018.
