Atomic Blonde is an espionage action drama in which MI6 agent Lorraine Broughton (Theron) is sent to Cold War Berlin to recover a missing list of agents.
With a film like this, you don’t need to have a deep plot with loads of character development. This is a simple story with awesome fight choreography and the spectacle is lovely. The 80s backdrop works well to tell this story where there were spies everywhere.

Furthermore, you’re not going to see Atomic Blonde for the plot, you want to see Theron kick all the arses and does a brilliant job of doing it. Full respect to the Oscar winner because she takes hits and bumps like only the bravest of actors would even want to.
The stunt team didn’t hold back when it comes to the fighting and neither did she and made sure they weren’t coming back up.

This is where you got some humour because these spies should be dead but somehow they got back up, it was like a video game at times. I also sometimes find the humour in seeing two people beat the living crap out of each other.
Meanwhile, with all the awesome action and the how cool Leitch directs this era with the fashion and music, it’s also incredibly sexy.
It comes in the form of Boutella and her chemistry with Theron clicks and it’s great to see the Algerian-French actress have dialogue to work with and show her decent acting chops.
Yes, her and Theron’s sex scene is pretty damn sexy.

Elsewhere, McAvoy does a great job and brings some of the humour. He plays a character between his character in Wanted and Filth.

The supporting cast does a great job too with Goodman, Jones, Skarsgard and Eddie Marsan.
Verdict
Cool, sexy and brilliantly kicks ass. Atomic Blonde is a great action film for everyone with brilliant performances from Theron and McAvoy.
