James Wan Talks Aquaman Directing Difficulties
While talking to The Hollywood Reporter, James Wan explained the difficulties of filming the forthcoming DC superhero blockbuster and the everyday challenges he faces when filming a largely underwater film.
Talking while from his Australian filming set, “It’s a technically challenging shoot to be on,” Wan explains. “Working with water, and even the dry-for-wet sequences are very complex. Our equivalent of two people sitting around chatting in the underwater world is super complicated. You have to think about CG with the hair, and how their clothing moves, how are they floating, what kind of rig we put them on and all that stuff.”
In case you don’t know what dry-for-wet filming means, it’s basically filming a scene on dry land using colour filters, clever lighting and digitally film something on a dry stage before post-production and the VFX teams make it look like the actors are underwater.
The director went on to stress most of the difficulties is down to him wanting to film as much as possible with the real actors and only using CGI whenever needed.
“That just makes it very difficult and time-sucking and time-challenging to do all of this,” he admitted. “So it’s not an easy shoot – but hopefully it will pay off in spades down the line.”
I fully hope it will and will be a massive step in this genre. Because it’s coming from an incredibly talented director and by the time Justice League is released and probably on DVD/Blu-ray, fans would hopefully take to Jason Momoa and could be the breakout star of the team-up movie, we will be getting super excited to see the first very live action solo Aquaman film.
Furthermore, Aquaman could have a Wonder Woman affect and dominate the Christmas/Winter 2018 going into 2019 period.
Aquaman comes out in UK/US cinemas December 21, 2018.
Wonder Woman Keeps Breaking Records
At $400 million, Wonder Woman has become Warner Bros third highest grossing movie ever at the US box office behind The Dark Knight ($534.9 million) and The Dark Knight Rises ($448.1 million).

Wonder Woman will also be the top grossing title of summer 2017 in the States and also the second biggest movie of the whole year, behind Beauty and the Beast at $504 million.
Worldwide, the film has grossed over $795 million, so it’s likely (and hopefully) end its run by just getting to $800 million.
It’s great seeing this female-centric superhero film define expectations and even bigger/ better news it’s within the DCEU and things can only get better.
Gal Gadot did a little and adorable song and dance when hearing of the milestone.
Get ready to see more of Diana outside of her solo films and Justice League team-ups as Forbes’ Mark Hughes is reporting we will see Wonder Woman appear in The Flash movie, now titled Flashpoint.

This is super exciting as we’ll see a slightly evil version of Gadot’s Princess Diana in Flashpoint as she and her Amazons go to about again Aquaman and his Atlantians.
We’re likely to see Flashpoint coming out around 2020.
Wonder Woman will be coming out on DVD/Blu-ray this Autumn with plenty of awesome bonus features.
