Despite the films getting ever shitter, Paramount will continue to milk the dead cow that is their Transformers franchise as the full cast of the Bumblebee spin-off movie has been announced.
The film will be directed by Kubo and the Two Strings helmer Travis Knight with Pitch Perfect’s Hailee Steinfeld as the lead. The biggest surprise was WWE superstar John Cena also joining the cast.

No one knows who he’s playing, but The Hollywood Reporter is stating he’s being billed as a “character study” and the ‘Face that Runs the Place’ has signed on as a leading role.
Steinfeld, meanwhile, will be playing Charlie, a girl on the cusp of 18 who stumbles upon a ‘battle-scarred’ Bumblebee in a junk year and the film is also set in the 80s.
Firstly, don’t expect to see ‘Big Match John’ as a villain because his owner Vince McMahon wouldn’t let him turn heel in WWE so why would you let him be a bad guy for a movie.
Plus, I don’t see Cena doing the heavy lifting because he’s never been a major lead of a big movie before. So all the pressure will go on the shoulders of Steinfeld and their director Knight.
Meanwhile, even though she was utterly brilliant in The Edge of Seventeen, the 20-year-old actress/singer is still a little unknown so this will put her on a bigger platform to do a big film like Marvel, DC, Star Wars movie.
She’d be a great Batgirl.
Furthermore, it doesn’t matter how you look at this, no one really cares about this movie after five utterly crapfests known as Michael Bay’s Transformers and it’s a shame because people as talented as Steinfeld and especially Knight deserve better.
What’s even more incredible is this Bumblebee spin-off is set to release on the same date as James Wan’s Aquaman, December 21, 2018. Both are released before Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns.
Honestly, Warner Bros shouldn’t move (even though moving Wonder Woman away from Transformers 5 was the smart choice) because Paramount has no game at the moment with these robots. So when it comes to box office with both Aquaman and Mary Poppins, Bumblebee doesn’t stand a chance.
