Last night was the biggest night on the British film calendar with Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri taking home five awards from this year’s BAFTA awards.

The hotly tipped Oscar favourite took home Best Film, Best British Film, Original Screenplay, meanwhile Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell picked up Leading Actress and Supporting Actor respectfully.

Meanwhile, The Shape of Water’s Guillermo del Toro won Best Director, Gary Oldman picked up Leading Actor award following wins at the Golden Globes and SAG and now his upcoming Oscar will have a gang. Allison Janney is also set to make a clean sweep after receiving Supporting Actress for her performance in I, Tonya.

Elsewhere, Daniel Kuluuya received the EE Rising Star award voted by the public.

However, Paddington 2 was ROBBED of all three awards it was nominated for especially since Three Billboards was going to win Best Film, this wonderful film deserved to win Best British Film as well as Hugh Grant for Supporting Actor.

The night overall was mixed but leaning towards the positive as Joanna Lumley was a great host with her jokes hit and miss. You can say that about most of the jokes during the evening with some bombing like Taron Egerton and Karen Gillian joke aimed at the Visual Effects while Bryan Cranston and Salma Hayek with the joke of the night during the presentation of Leading Actor.

The theme of the night was everyone wearing all black in support of Time’s Up and Me Too minus McDormand who is a badass and doesn’t conform to anything. Then you have the numpties having a go at the future Queen, the Duchess of Cambridge, for wearing a lovely royal dark green dress as (and this is important) royalty is expected to avoid taking a political position in public but showed support for the movement by wearing a black ribbon.

On the TV side, the opening segment was funny and while the Cirque du Soleil The Shape of Water inspired performance was lovely but having the first award handed out 20 minutes into the show and it meant awards like Cinematography, Original Score, Animation and Outstanding British Contribution To Cinema were revealed in the recap part at the end of the show.

That’s unacceptable. This and the Twitter spoilers proved more evidence this show SHOULD be shown live! Start it at 8pm and have it wrapped by 10:30pm. It’ll give every award the right amount of time to have their moment.

Finally, going back to Paddington 2 the end credit scene of the film should’ve been the opening segment as it would’ve started the show off with a bang and give everyone a smile.
