Steven Spielberg is joining the DC Universe! I’ll repeat, STEVEN FUCKING SPIELBERG IS JOINING THE DC UNIVERSE!
Late last night (Tuesday 17th April) Warner Bros released a statement revealing that Ready Player One director and all round filmmaking legend Steven Spielberg is coming onboard to produce the action-adventure Blackhawk.
The studio also states Spielberg also has an eye to direct the DC Comics property.

In the statement, Warner Bros president Toby Emmerich said “We are proud to be the studio behind Steven Spielberg’s latest hit, and are thrilled to be working with him again on this new action adventure.
“We can’t wait to see what new ground he will break in introducing ‘Blackhawk’ to movie audiences worldwide.”
The project’s screenplay will be written by David Koepp who worked with Spielberg on Jurassic Park (yay!) and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (oh!) but he’s written films like Spider-Man and Mission: Impossible.
I’m sure a load of you are asking “who the fuck is Blackhawk?”
Basically the Blackhawks are a squadron of World War II pilots from across the world used German planes to take out the Nazi’s and their allies in secret missions and they were led by Bart Hawk (got to love 40s comics) but their most famous character come from the 1959 additions as Lady Blackhawk was added to the team.

She has been a mild successful character ever since becoming a member of the Birds of Prey back in 2004.
Think of Blackhawk as a period piece war film meets Top Gun

What’s great about doing this film, besides the Spielberg attachment, is that this film can be a one and done but also connect to Wonder Woman and the Great War and maybe at this point, Diana has become a bit of a folk story service men and women tell.
We could also see a returning character in Said Taghmaoui’s Sameer because it would make sense for him to be involved and maybe make him the founding member and leader of the Blackhawks.
It seems Taghmaoui is up for it judging by this Tweet last year.

Since she is the most well-known to fans Lady Blackhawk aka Zinda Blake has to be in the film too but as for casting it’s a bit too early to think about that but I’m sure since she’s just worked with him on Ready Player One that Olivia Cooke might in the running.

Finally, it’s all a bit of a waiting game now because the iconic filmmaker is busy working on Indy 5 and the West Side Story remake before coming to the DCU. However, since he has been wanting to make this film since the 80s, there’s a chance this will be his next project following Indy 5.
