The 16 competitors taking part in this year’s United Kingdom Championship have been announced and it’s a mixture of established WWE superstars, returning wrestlers and newcomers to be introduced to the WWE Universe.
The first eight wrestlers were revealed on Wednesday 16th May and they were:
Zack Gibson
Joe Coffey
Kenny Williams
Jack Gallagher
Joseph Connors
El Ligero
Dave Mastiff
Amir Jordan
Then today (Friday 18th May) the final eight wrestlers were revealed including a surprise addition:
Flash Morgan Webster
Tyson T-Bone
Ashton Smith
Travis Banks
Jordan Devlin
Drew Gulak
Tucker
James Drake
To be honest it’s surprising WWE would have included two established WWE talent in 205’s Gallagher and especially American Gulak and when you think about last year’s tournament when Neville came out saying how he felt disrespected for not competing it just feels weird the company would include two of their own.
I mean they have a New Zealander in Banks involved, but he’s been a cornerstone in the UK indie scene for a while now and I think fans would’ve why he wasn’t involved this time since he is the PROGRESS Champion. If they wanted to include an American in the tournament then surely David Starr would’ve been an ideal choice since he too is beloved by the UK wrestling fans.

Once Banks’ name was announced then I think it’ll be safe to say he should be in the final four, if not winner and fighting against Pete Dunne for UK Championship, which would rock The Royal Albert Hall.

Depend on how the drew is done then I wouldn’t be too surprised if the semi-finalist our Banks, Webster, Gibson and probably out of Gulak or Williams.
The first round of the tournament will happen at the Download Festival on June 8th, 9th and 10th. Then my guess is the quarter-finals and semi’s during the first night at The Royal Albert Hall on June 18th with the final of the tournament and the title match on 19th June.
I’m sort of pissed off at the WWE for doing it this way because a lot of fans spent £50+ to attend the show(s) and we’ll be getting less wrestling at TRAH especially the final night. I wish they announced that they were going to do the first round at Download then QF/SF on night one and final/title match on night two.
The underline question still is what is WWE going to do with all this UK talent? Obviously, it has something to do with ITV's World of Sport. Are we going to get a weekly WWE UK program on the network or not?
