The Revenant Wins Big At The Golden Globes

The Revenant was the big winner at this year’s Golden Globes picking up three awards, including the most prestigious award of the night for best motion picture.

Leonardo DiCaprio also won for best actor in a drama and Alejandro G Inarritu won for its direction.

It’s a great time for The Revenant as it’ll finally be in UK cinemas this week and with the buzz already  around this film, winning three of the biggest prizes will only help with getting more people to see it.

There were wins for Brie Larson named best actress in a drama for the fantastic Room and Jennifer Lawrence won in the best comedy actress category for Joy.

Smash hit The Martian picked up best comedy or musical and there was a further award for its lead Matt Damon.

It wasn’t a great night for the Brits with only Kate Winslet and singer Sam Smith winning best supporting actress for Steve Jobs and best original song for Bond theme Writing’s On The Wall respectively.

Mark Rylance, who was the favourite for Bridge of Spies, and fellow countryman Idris Elba missed out on the best supporting actor award to Sylverster Stallone for his returning performance as Rocky Balboa in Creed, also out in UK cinemas this week.

Other hopefuls Eddie Redmayne, Dame Helen Mirren and Dame Maggie Smith also missed out.

Sadly, there was no love for Mad Max: Fury Rod or its director George Miller which is such a shame and I think it’s only going to be a film, if it is nominated for an Oscar, that’ll get nominated by the major award groups just to make film fans happy but doesn’t have a chance of winning.
