Depending on how you watched Star Wars: The Force Awakens, one of two people stole the film Daisy Ridley’s Rey or Finn played by John Boyega. If you thought it was Boyega then you’ll be pleased to hear that the ‘Attack the Block’ star will be the leading man in Pacific Rim 2.
Boyega will play Cashier Pentecost, the son of Idris Elba’s
Stacker Pentecost, under the direction of Steven S. DeKnight, who was selected
by Guillermo del Toro when he opted out of directing the sequel, and del Toro
will still be involved with the project as a producer.
About Boyega joining the film del Toro said “I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox. The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be multicultural, multi-layered.

‘The World saving the World’ was our goal and I couldn’t
think of a better man for the job” added del Toro.
Then Boyega went onto Twitter confirm the news and that his
production company Upper Room Productions will be co-producing.
I'll be taking on the Pacific Rim franchise with Steven S.Deknight directing. Very excited!— John Boyega (@JohnBoyega) 6 June 2016
So happy! My company UpperRoom Productions founded by myself & @MrFemiOguns, will co-produce #PacificRim2 alongside @Legendary— John Boyega (@JohnBoyega) 6 June 2016
We still don’t know much about Pacific Rim: Maelstrom (working title) apart from the fact we’ll be expecting to see more giant robots fighting even bigger monsters. This film has had several writers involved and DeKnight should start filming later this year.
Meanwhile, Boyega is a part of tech thriller The Circle and
has been filming Star Wars: Episode 8 with director Rian Johnson and expected
to take over cinemas in December 2017.
