When Disney bought Lucasfilm, it was only a matter of time before we got brand new Indiana Jones films and the fifth instalment of the is already in development with Steven Spielberg return with Harrison Ford bringing the hat and whip.
Now, in an exclusive interview with The Hollywood Reporter,
Bob Igor, Disney Chairman and CEO, was talking about a number of different topics including the future of
Indy and the word reboot came up.

Igor did dismiss talk of a Star Wars-esque universe for the
future Indy movies, but he did talk about future plans, which are in the super
early stages saying “Right now, we're focused on a reboot, or a continuum and
then a reboot of some sort. We'll bring him back, then we have to figure out
what comes next. That's what I mean. It's not really a reboot, it's a boot – a
reboot. I don't know."
This could anger some Indy fans who only see Ford as the archaeologist,
but he isn’t getting any younger and if Disney/Lucasfilm wants to build a
franchise than they have to get a younger actor/actress to play his successor, not Indy
himself, for years to come.
As for who they’ll cast or what sort of stories they’ll tell, you’d need to get a hold of Mystic Meg, but Igor did say “I've had discussions about what the direction is, but I don't want to get into it," adding "I see making more. It won't be just a one-off."
So this fifth film could be Ford’s last before handing over
the hat and whip to someone else to use on their adventures. Jones himself will
be making his return to the big screen in 2019.
Do you like the plans Disney/Lucasfilm have for the
franchise? Is there an actor/actress you’d like to see take over? Comment below
