Compared to recent weeks, this DC Films round-up is a little lighter, but still filled with Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman goodness.
Batman v Superman
Ultimate Edition
This week Warner Bros released Batman v Superman: Dawn of
Justice – The Ultimate Edition on digital in the US with the DVD and Blu-Ray
releases coming out in a couple of weeks and it looks like the 30 added minutes
have improved the film.
Many people who hated or disliked the theatrical cut have changed their minds describing it as “day and night” however, it must be said they still think the film has its issues, but they enjoyed this version more.
It also seems they’re apologising a little bit to director Zack Snyder as he got so much shit when the film got released and now it’s turned to WB and why they didn’t release this Ultimate Editon back in March as they think would have broken the $1 billion mark.

However, I would say that Snyder doesn’t get off scot free
as he should’ve been able to edit the
theatrical cut better as two and half hours is more than enough time to tell this
story. Also, I think the backlash to BvS needed to happen so the Justice League
film, which is currently shooting in London, is for everyone and not for die
hard fans.
Annoyingly the Ultimate Editon isn’t out in the UK until
July 18th for digital and August 1st on Blu-Ray and DVD.

Suicide Squad
Now with Suicide Squad just over four weeks away and according
to director David Ayer this film “IS A BEAST” as we now know the official
running time.
After American cinema chin Fandango said the film was 100
minutes long (1 hour 40 minutes) to which Ayer came out to say it wasn’t true.
So what is the official running time? According to Collider, Suicide Squad will
be 130 minutes (2 hours 10 minutes).

This seems a prefect as we’ll get two hours of super-villain action and fun before credits and this also makes it the shortest movie in the DCU so far. Shortly after this news came out Ayer posted on Twitter that the film is done and post-production is completely finished.

Also during this week’s episode of Collider Heroes host Jon Schnepp said “Ayer’s version won” now I’m not sure what it means. My only guess is WB and Ayer were butting heads of which version to release and since Ayer was the person who pitch the film to the studio, wrote and directed it, it’s only right his version should be seen because Warner Bros are “filmmaker driven.”
Squad is completed! Finished final mix and coloring. Now it's off to the lab and then the world. Nothing like it out there. It.Is.a.Beast.— David Ayer (@DavidAyerMovies) 24 June 2016
Finally, get ready for critics and reviewers to use Hot Topic
when they describe the Jokers and Harley Quinn’s costumes, partly because it’s
true and it doesn’t help with Hot Topic releasing a Suicide Squad clothing line
focusing on Harley and her puddin’.
Other DC News
J.K. Simmons talked to Entertainment Weekly about is
upcoming movies and he discussed playing Commissioner Gordon and revealing he
wants to bring out his badass side.
“People of my generation remember Commissioner Gordon as
this jolly, ineffectual Santa Claus type, and I think over the years in the
comics there’s definitely much more of a badass side to him.
Simmons added “One of the things that’s interesting to me is
investigating hopefully a little bit more of that badass [side]…You’re living
in a universe where it’s pretty tough to be a badass compared to somebody like
Batman, but in the universe of non-superheroes I like the idea of Commissioner
Gordon as a guy that can take care of himself, a guy that’s a real partner to
Batman, not just a guy that turns on the bat signal and goes, ‘Help! Help,
Batman!’”
This is great news to hear because especially in the
animated series Jim Gordon knew how to handle himself and I think we won’t see
much of him in Justice League, but in the solo Batman then YES! Give me badass
Commissioner Gordon!
This is just a rumour, but we could be seeing the Justice
League at San Diego Comic Con this year as a fan asked Ben Affleck "Will
you be at Comic-Con, sir?" to which he replied "Yeah, we'll be
there."
All of my DC Film news came from Batman News and if you want
to be kept up to date with all things happening in the DCU follow me on Twitter
@Shaun_Wren.
I'm keeping this as a rumour for the time being as Affleck
was asked while he was at LAX, but with Warner Bros already slating Suicide
Squad and Wonder Woman to appear at Comic Con it’ll be great to see the cast of
Justice League there as well. Even though it’ll be a quick hello, hopefully
they’ll show the fans the Barry Allen/Bruce Wayne scene that the press saw
during the set visit.
