It’s been a while since I’ve done a full DC Films news round-up, mainly because last week was a little light on the news until the Wonder Woman trailer came out and I’ve just been busy. Anyway, I’ve got a crap tonne of news so let’s get on with it.

Wonder Woman Trailer
Last Thursday, Warner Bros released the newest trailer for Wonder Woman and it was incredible. It seemly got everyone on board; I haven’t heard any negative stuff come out and the trailer.

I loved everything about it from the beautiful cinematography, the story (we know a little more, but still don’t know the full plot), I’m becoming more confident Gal Gadot can carry this film and it looks like Patty Jenkins has done a brilliant job at directing as some of the shots were awesome.

Director Rick Famuyiwa leaves The Flash
This was the another big story that came out last week, Famuyiwa has become the second director to leave this WB project.

Ezra Miller Talks The Flash, Justice League and Geoff Johns
Ezra Miller has been a busy boy recently promoting Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

During his press tour, he talked about what The Flash films need from its new director, Barry Allen’s relationship with Bruce Wayne in Justice League and why it’s important to have someone like Geoff John in charge.

While talking to Cinemablend, Miller was asked what he thinks The Flash needs from its replacement director.

“I think that the most important quality is the open heart. I think that The Flash has to be a story that is heartfelt because I think that’s where the lighting really is.”

“Heart” was something Famuyiwa wanted to bring to the film, but now it’s up to the next man/woman.

Meanwhile, whilst talking to IGN, Miller said “I think it’s the relationship between someone who is naïve and excited and someone who is experienced and jaded, and it’s seeing each other as reflections of one another and being amused and maybe sometimes annoyed by one another.

“I think Bruce and Barry get a kick out of each other because they’re seeing sort of themselves, but reflected in this very warped mirror.”

He also talked about movie magic behind making the Flash run fast.

Check out this incredibly nerdy video around the 5:53 mark.

Collider was next, asking Miller what’s it like to have someone like DC’s Geoff Johns around and with the 24-year-old saying, “Yes, he’s a good guy to have around.

“He keeps us from making ignorant mistakes that would upset the fans across the world because you pretty much can’t get someone with a deeper knowledge of this universe than Geoff Johns.”

Justice League Villain Steppenwolf Has Been Cast
One of the biggest casting secrets around Justice League was who was going to play the main villain Steppenwolf?

The Wrap has the answer, Game of Thrones star Ciaran Hinds has been cast as the big bad, adding “Hinds recently wrapped production on the role of Steppenwolf which is a motion capture character from an alien planet.”

Steppenwolf’s look will be “upgraded” from what we saw from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition and this scene was released on YouTube the Monday after BvS was released in cinemas.

Warner Bros CEO Praises Wonder Woman and Geoff Johns Leadership of DC Films
The New York Time wrote a fascinating piece about Warner Bros recently and it included an interview with the company’s CEO, Kevin Tsujihara. It talks about the studio having one of its most profitable years and next year will be even bigger.

Focusing on the DCU side of things, Tsujihara thinks the financial success of both Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad (yes, both films were profitable) has been lost whenever it gets a kicking from bad reviews or negative headlines. Noting both films made a combined $1.6 billion at the box office.

Tsujihara was then asked if the negative reaction to those films could hurt Justice League with audience’s likely play and wait and see before spending their money on another DC movie. He seemed confident after placing Geoff Johns and Jon Berg in control of DC Films.

“Mr Tsujihara said he was confident that management changes he has been making (putting a pair of executives, Geoff Johns and Jon Berg, in charge of superhero movies, for instance) will make for more satisfied fans. With any luck, even a critic or two could come around.”

Another reason for WB and their CEO to be confident about the future of DC Films is Wonder Woman. “The thing that really gets me confident is that I’ve seen ‘Wonder Woman,’ and it’s great” added Tsujihara.

It’s great that he’s confident. However, is the Wonder Woman film he saw, the one we’ll see? Also, him saying it’s great should be taken with a grain of salt.

Other DC News
  • Rupert Gregson – Williams told The Playlist he will be composing the music for Wonder Woman.
  • In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kiersey Clemons, who’ll be playing Iris West in The Flash, described director Rick Famuyiwa’s exit as “very upsetting”, but did say she’ll stay on.
