How I Think DC FIlms Should Make The Birds Of Prey/Harey Quinn Film

It was revealed Warner Bros and Margot Robbie have found a screenwriter for the Harley Quinn solo film.

In the report, it was said it’ll be less of Harley film but instead show multiple DC female characters both heroes and villains.

This led to many people (including myself) going along the lines we’ll see the Birds of Prey involved, but I’m hoping Gotham Sirens will be in the film too.

Look, I thought Robbie as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad was great, but you can't have a film withher as a solo character with multiple cameos. However, Quinn as part of Birds of Prey/Gotham Sirens film would work better.

So as a bit of fun, I thought of doing some fancasting and story ideas. The criteria I set myself are I want most (if not all) these characters to be around the same age/10 years younger than Ben Affleck’s Batman.

THIS IS MY OPINION!!

The Story
I’d have Batfleck have a five-minute cameo at the beginning talking to Barbara Gordon as Oracle saying he’s too busy with Justice League issues to keep Gotham safe and she’s the only person he can trust (as he and Nightwing have certain issues) and he’ll fund it.

Oracle goes out to find her team made of Katana, Black Canary, Huntress and Batwoman. Pointing out Gordon was that good as Batgirl they need two people to cover her role.

We then get to see Harley living with Ivy after they pulled off a huge crime spree across Central City, Star City and Bludhaven. When they return to Gotham to steal something from the Government involving destroying the environment and they meet Catwoman wanting to steal the same hard drive.

After escaping from The Birds of Prey, Catwoman and Ivy find out they want the some goal and they agree to work together and Harley uses her time with the Suicide Squad to get as much info as possible.

This is when we get to introduce Amanda Waller (the villain of the film) who sees Harley in the CCTV footage and is pissed off this hard drive was taken (it has something to do with another Kryptonian pod crushed there and Waller wants the pod for the tech and info to stop Superman or other metahumans – hinting to Supergirl).

She knows government agents with codenames Infiltrator, Flesh, Head and Napalm (give them real names in the film) and she wants them to kill Harley, Catwoman and Ivy and retrieve the hard drive.

Midway through the film, the women get a completely beaten and all three barely accept and this leads Selina Kyle (with a bloodied face and cracked ribs) to stumble and ask Gordon for help and gives her a copy of the hard drive telling her Superman will be interested in seeing this.

The film ends with the Birds of Prey and the Sirens teaming up on the government agents with a badass fight sequence and Oracle is hacking into every government computer and erases all copies of the files and leaves Waller a little message.

The film will have cameos from The Joker (to highlight the major issues between Oracle and Harley), Batman, Nightwing and Superman.

The mid-credits scene will be Oracle showing Superman the footage of a teenage girl getting out of her pod and walking away with the date of June 12, 2013.

The Cast
Obviously, Margot Robbie as Harley as one of the leads and Karen Fukuhara and Viola Davis to returning as Katana and Amanda Waller respectfully.

Barbara Gordon/Oracle – I want someone in their mid-20’s. I was going to go a little older and bring in Anna Kendrick, she’s worked with Affleck and J.K. Simmons on The Accountant, but I thought it would be too obvious.

So I’ve gone for Jane Levy, she starred in Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead remake and the critically acclaimed summer horror blockbuster Don’t Breathe. The main reasons are she’s 26, still an up-and-coming actress, but is getting roles that are developing her and becoming an indie darling.

Selina Kyle/Catwoman – I want someone who’s more age appropriate to Affleck’s Batman because a 20-year-old Catwoman flirting with a mid-40’s Batman feels wrong. So I’ve got two actresses who are both 33-years-old.

They're Alison Brie and Gemma Chan. I guessing not a lot of you will know who they are or go “Oh that’s the girl from…”, but with Brie; I’ve ever seen a bad performance from her, she’s always great in what role she’s in.

As for Chan, this woman is a brilliant actress and done a lot of stuff and getting pointed out for her performances in Channel 4’s Humans and I hope she’s in Disney’s minds to play Mulan.

Poison Ivy and Batwoman – For the role of Pamela Lillian Isley (Poison Ivy), I can only see Christina Hendricks. She hasn’t that major career after Mad Men people thought and bring in someone as curvy and drop dead gorgeous would bring the character to life as Ivy is a little flirty.

On the other hand, Jessica Chastain would be a badass Batwoman. She’s always on the tip of everyone’s lips when fancasting her in superhero films have it, Poison Ivy or Captain Marvel.

Personally, as an actress she’d be suited to Kate Kane and just look at her IMDB! She’s an incredible actress and would bring credibility to a character a lot of people wouldn’t know exists.

Black Canary – With someone like Black Canary you can go two ways, the younger mid-20/early 30’s to keep the demographic mixed or go for an actress in later 30’s. Plus with his casting, you’re also setting a benchmark for whenever Oliver Queen/Green Arrow.

Whoever gets the role will have to do some rebuilding as Dinah (Laurel) Lance in the TV show Arrow pissed off a lot of people.

Again, I have two actresses in mind, Alexandra Daddario or Rosamond Pike.

I think these actresses’ careers speak for themselves, Pike is a brilliant, while rounded actress and Daddario is just about to become a huge A-list actress and if Baywatch is a success, she’ll be in demand.

Huntress – The version I’m using for the character is Helena Bertinelli as in alternative/previous version’s she’s Helena Wayne, Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle’s daughter.

I did have two actresses in mind, but when I thought of Zoe Kravitz it made sense to me.

She’s a brilliant actress and with experience of the Divergent films behind her as well as X-Men: First Class and Dope. Plus, she’s been involved in a couple of Warner Bros film with Mad Max: Fury Road and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Finally, there’s only one actress I have in mind for the role of Supergirl and that’s Saoirse Ronan.

The main thing I want to get this film to showcase to everyone and inspire little girls is it doesn’t matter about your disability, ethnicity, sexuality, body type, whatever you are, you’re all equally awesome and badasses in your own right.

Director
I wanted to include Tim Miller because with the work he did on Deadpool and I think he’d make a really fun superhero film with all these characters, but if you want to promote a core female behind the scenes team with a female screenwriter and still be able to get the female POV then I have two awesome directors in mind.

Lexi Alexander is well known for her directing action films and some pretty awesome fight sequences, her episode of Arrow was some of the best fighting I’ve seen on TV. It’s only her action stuff, I’m looking forward to seeing what she does as a storyteller with Crossface ( a biopic on WWE wrestler Chris Benoit). If that’s well received then I think Alexander would ideal for this film.

Amma Asante won’t be well known to a lot of people, but the British director talking issues of race and is just a wonderful storyteller in Belle and I’ve heard great things about her next film A United Kingdom, which stars Rosamond Pike.
