Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn spin-off movie is officially on the way.

Not only will Robbie be reprising her role as the Clown Princess of Crime, but David Ayer is returning to the world of DC comic villains.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the filmmaker and his breakout star will be reuniting for Gotham City Sirens. It’ll be showcasing the top female villains from the DC stable including popular villainesses from Batman’s rogue gallery, Catwoman and Poison Ivy.

Ayer will be directing and Geneva Robinson-Dworet, a popular writer at Warner Bros and has penned scripts for the Tomb Raider remake and Sherlock Holmes 3, is writing the screenplay.

DC Films co-heads Geoff Johns and Jon Berg will be involved in a producorial role.

Ayer took to Twitter to confirm the story.

Suicide Squad had plenty of issues, from a tough production, reshoots (which is normal for all blockbusters) and multiple edits. Despite the negative response from critics and the mixed response from fans, the film went on to grossed over $745.6 million worldwide.

THR also revived this project is the furthest along (compared to Suicide Squad 2 or the Deadshot spin-off) and with Robbie’s Quinn receiving the most universal praise coming out of Squad and it was a natural fit to re-team her with Ayer for this project.

The studio doesn’t have a release date for Siren, but the project is being fast-tracked and both Robbie and Ayer are attached as producers.

Of course having a female director on this project would be awesome.

However, after watching the Suicide Squad special features you can see how much Ayer and Robbie loved and respected working together. Meanwhile, the fact Robinson-Dworet, whose has penned the Tomb Raider reboot, is on the project gets me excited and it means Ayer can focus on directing.

I know Squad is a mess of a film, but I enjoyed it. I didn’t need it to be the amazing game-changer film, to me Suicide Squad was a fun, dumb action film with decent performances from Robbie, Will Smith and Jai Courtney.
