The DCU can add another member from Watchman to their cinematic universe as Patrick Wilson has been cast as Aquaman’s half-brother Orm Marius aka Ocean Master in the upcoming solo film.

Deadline was the first to report the news, as Wilson will be re-teaming again with director James Wan after both being involved turning The Conjuring films into major blockbusters.

Wan even tweeted that it was the worst kept secret.

Ocean Master has become an iconic villain in DC Comics, but I little confused about Orm’s heritage.

I always thought he was a full Atlantean and was jealous/angry Arthur Curry was next in line to the throne, even though he was half-human. However, reading multiple articles Orm was fully human and was so ashamed it led him to betray his family multiple times.

If any DC Comics nerds know the origins of Orm, I’d be grateful to learn.

If you want a simpler term, Orm is basically a lot like Loki whereas Aquaman has similarities to Thor.

This wouldn’t be the first time Wilson has been in a superhero film as he starred as Nite Owl in Zack Snyder’s film adaptation of Watchman alongside other DCU/Watchman alumni; Jeffery Dean Morgan (Thomas Wayne in Batman v Superman), Carla Gugino (Voice of Kelor in Man of Steel/Batman v Superman) and Billy Crudup (rumoured to be Henry Allen in The Flash).

Wilson has actually been in the DCU before as the voice of the President of the United States in Batman v Superman.

What I like to see happen to Orm is be little less like Loki in the Marvel films and be more like Michael Shannon’s Zod in Man of Steel because if Ocean Master is the villain of the solo Aquaman film you can understand his point of view.

Humans are ruining the Ocean and the world is 71% water, it’s time for Atlantis to take control and punish mankind to the way it’s treated the sea.

I don’t see Wan, Geoff Johns and Warner Bros to pull the trigger on that storyline until the sequel, if Wan returns. However, I can see the first solo film to be Aquaman and Orm working together and battle Black Manta.

The upcoming Justice League movie will lay the groundwork for the Aquaman movie because not only will we see Jason Momoa in the title role, but he'll be joined by Amber Heard’s Mera, Queen of Atlantis and Willem Dafoe as Atlantean scientist Nuidis Vulko introduced in the superhero team-up and will have greater roles in the solo movie.
