Warner Bros Have Found Two Writers To Pen The Green Lantern Corps

Get ready to see “Lethal Weapon in space” when the Green Lantern Corps comes to the big screen.

According to the folks at Deadline, Warner Bros/DC have hired The Dark Knight/Man of Steel writer David S. Goyer and relative unknown writer Justin Rhodes (but has written three indie films) to pen the script for the DCU film.

The current (and in my opinion right) plan is to have two of the most iconic human members to bear the famous green right – Hal Jordan and John Stewart – to star in this superhero buddy cop film in space.

The rumoured story will centre on American war hero Stewart joining the intergalactic police force known as the Green Lanterns as well as focusing on his partnership with veteran Lantern Jordan.

I hope you didn’t remember the 2011 belly flop known as Green Lantern with Ryan Reynolds played Hal Jordan and there’s no news if Reynolds wants to star, but I laughably highly doubt it because Reynolds will be too busy rolling in the money Deadpool made and will be filming a Deadpool sequel.

Plus, I think WB, much like with recasting Ben Affleck as Batman, will be wanting fresh faces to make us forget that 2011’s Green Lantern was even a thing.

It was also revealed Goyer and Rhodes will be working from a story conceived by the former and Geoff Johns, who’s well known to have written some of the best Green Lantern stories in DC Comics history.

I think describing the film as “Lethal Weapon in space” gives an idea of the sort of film they’re aiming for and the tone.

Goyer will be attached as a producer with DC Films co-heads Johns and Jon Berg executive producing.

It was interesting to see people's reaction to this news as Goyer has a mix reputation with comic book fans. On one hand, he worked with Chris Nolan as part of one of the greatest trilogy’s on screen ever in The Dark Knight Trilogy and, for me, made Superman relevant and interesting in Man of Steel. On the other hand, people hate him for what he did to Superman in Man of Steel and he directed Blade: Trinity and it was A) a shit film and B) Wesley Snipes wanted to kill him on set.

Now the ball is firmly rolling on this project, the next news we should get is who’ll be directing and starring because they have a hard/interesting job on their hands.

They need to cast a strong cast to play Jordan and to get people to move on from the 2011 film (just close your eyes and it’ll be forgotten forever) and make sure the black actor they hire for Stewart isn’t a part of Black Panther.

It's also interesting to see how fans react to casting because you have two demographics, the ones who grew up with Hal Jordan in the comic books. However, you have the ones who grew up watching John Stewart in the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited animated TV show.

There are rumours going around that we could see a small cameo from a Green Lantern (maybe Jordan) in Zack Snyder’s Justice League and it could happen in the last moments of the film or a post-credits scene.
