Zachary Levi Is Shazam & It's A Superb Choice

Well wasn’t this a surprise for the books, after weeks and months of rumours between fans and reporters to who could possibly play Shazam. It was revealed to be the one name everyone didn’t think about.

Speculation of an announcement started on Friday when director David F. Sandberg posted this on his Instagram.

Then within 12 minutes, The Hollywood Reporter broke the story that Zachary Levi was cast as Captain Marvel in the upcoming WB/DC movie.

Once Levi was revealed I think everyone was questioning the decision, including myself, but when they gave it a thought this is actually a brilliant choice.

I can understand the reasons behind the questioning because Levi isn’t a big sexy A-list name like Armie Hammer or WWE megastar John Cena.

However, even though he’s not as big as Cena, once he starts working out (which by all accounts he’s been doing so) he’s going to look awesome as Shazam and the fanart suggests this too.

After the news broke both Sandberg and Levi went onto Instagram to confirm the story, as well as the 37-year-old, talked about his excitement.

“Honoured and greatly humbled to be a part of the #dcuniverse by bringing the original Captain Marvel to life. I am beside myself with gratitude, not only for this opportunity, but also the incredible outpouring of love and support from so many of you out there.

“Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be in the gym for the rest of forever” he added.

The reason why I think he’ll do a brilliant job is that he has this boyish charm similar to the characteristics of the big red cheese plus he’s a MASSIVE comic book nerd and has a minor role in the Thor films. He also has a massive fanbase from the TV show Chuck.

Furthermore, the fact Sandberg and the studio didn’t go for a big name means he nailed the audition and with the helmer reference this film as the superhero version of Big; Levi does have that young Tom Hanks thing too.

Finally, this film could be the restart to Levi’s career and turn him into a big A-lister similar to a certain Chris Pratt after getting cast as Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy turning him from the fat dude from Parks and Rec to the beefcake hunk and the top names for any male role.

Now, let's hope to see him fight Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam and filming for Shazam takes place in February with a release date of April 5, 2019.
