I'm a clinical young git, a bit like England, but there's one character, one kind-hearted bear that will forever show us being kind will be the way to people's hearts. Sometimes having a film that's lovely and nice as this is it’s always needed.

Paddington (Whishaw) happily settled with the Brown family in London, where he has become a popular member of the local community, spreading joy and marmalade wherever he goes. Paddington undertakes a number of odd jobs to pay for a unique pop-up book for his Aunt Lucy’s (Imelda Staunton) 100th birthday. But when the book is stolen, it’s up to Paddington and the Browns to find the thief.

He may not be a superhero or have Jedi powers but Paddington 2 is my favourite film of 2017 and it's going to take something truly special to top it.

The film picks up a couple of years after the original film and it like we were home right away and it won my heart in the first five words and tears started after the opening scene. FYI baby cub Paddington is a merchandise money maker.

For there the laughs flow really well and felt natural, unlike certain Marvel-related films this year, the right balance was struck with the jokes and was trying to be too funny. The films biggest positive is the heart and how Paddington effects everyone he meets and there’s a lovely speech at the beginning of the third act by Mr Brown (Bonneville) that sums it up.

However, the film is also a family-friendly crime movie with the Brown family working on proving Paddington is innocent and it's surprising how it's just the Brown family and not the whole community trying to free the bear. It shows how much is lost when he's not around.

Paul King returns to do a wonderful, beautiful job directing the sequel and along with the VFX team there are some shots that are just wow moments and this includes making Paddington look even better. Additionally, Simon Farnaby story and script was well-paced and a brilliantly written.

The cast is just superb. Ben Whishaw brings a youthful wiseness to Paddington and I feel Sally Hawkins is the nation’s sweetheart and no one knows who she is. You can see the two newest cast members Brendon Gleeson and Hugh Grant are loving every moment and in the case of Grant, he steals the film as the former popular star and is a heightened version of himself and could seriously see a supporting actor BAFTA nomination.

Verdict

Paddington 2 is the perfect movie at the right time. It's heartfelt, funny and emotional couldn't think of a more perfect way to spend 103 minutes.
