After a number of years that this project was rumoured, now it looks like we could finally be seeing a reboot of Masters of the Universe.

The Wrap broke the story has revealed Sony is in talks to bring in David S Goyer to direct after the prolific screenwriter handed in a recent draft of the script.

The story is set on the planet Eternia and follows Prince Adam who turns into the heroic warrior He-Man and battles his arch-villain named Skeletor, who’s out to conquer Castle Grayskull.

Masters of the Universe has been in development hell for years and has had a number of different directors attached to helm the reboot including G.I. Joe: Retaliation’s Jon M. Chu and McG (Charlie Angels). However, with someone like Goyer attached it could be a good thing.

The reason because this is the man with screenwriting credits that include Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy and Man of Steel and he could bring that seriousness to ground the film as Masters of the Universe could be something like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.

If this does plan out then Sony should just look at making one movie and see how well it goes before they plan out a franchise because it has the potential to be one, but to be honest it could easily work as a trilogy.

The only issue will be regarding his involvement with the DCEU’s Green Lantern Corps at Warner Bros as he penned the story and script and was even rumoured to be helming the film, although nothing is confirmed.

The hope is to have Masters of the Universe released on December 18, 2019.
