The Room is a highly popular film for being the shittest movie ever made. I never planned to see The Room before, even more so now after watching this film. However, I've always interested in behind the scenes/documentary films which The Disaster Artist can be classed under, it's just highly dramatised.

The film is decently directed by James Franco, who has put together a strong cast who perform pretty well with plenty of surprise cameos.

There's a moment where Tommy Wiseau is told he's the villain and not the hero then idea beings to grow throughout as Franco plays Wiseau, who desperately wants to be the all American hero, as a massive, jealous dickhead who was getting more hateable by the second. Yet there are some moments where you get this release to feel better to laugh at this horrible man.

If it was Franco's point then this would be his best performance he has ever given. Additionally, if someone can let me know that'd be great, is Wiseau secretly gay?

The best performance was Dave Franco has Greg. He was sympathetic, charming and someone to routine for. Though it begs the question, why did he stay with Tommy for so long? He is his friend sure, but why give up on bigger opportunities to please someone who in a few scenes before treated his female lead like shit?

Also, if they're such good friends, why isn't Greg the only person to know who the fuck Tommy is? If he does, the audience hasn't have to know but have a scene that hints to it.

As for the cast who play the cast of The Room, Franco does a good job of getting those actors to be like the original cast, while Seth Rogen shows some serious acting chops rather than the over the top characters he normally plays.

Verdict

If you're a "fan" of The Room then you'll be seeing this film either way. The Disaster Artist is a bad movie with some laughs and decent performances, but Wiseau is a true Hollywood villain.
