Liam Neeson's career as a B movie action star has involved his daughter being taken, fighting wolves and memory lost whilst destroying planes, plenty of automobiles and we finally see Neeson on a train!

Disclaimer: I'll be writing this review while having the Northern Irishman's Irish come American accent in my head.

Michael (Neeson) is an insurance salesman on his daily commute home becomes anything but routine. After meeting a mysterious woman, Michael is forced to uncover the identity of a hidden passenger on his train before the final stop. As he against the clock to solve the puzzle, he realizes a deadly plan is unfolding and is unwittingly caught up in a criminal conspiracy. One that carries life and death streaks for himself and his fellow passengers.

To be honest, this synopsis makes this film more dramatic than it actually is, which is basically any other B action movie with the 65-year-old playing just a normal guy who was an ex-cop, navy seal, FBI and gets into trouble and it follows by fighting, shooting, crashy things.

It follows the many action movie cliché and there was a moment I was thinking ahead and laughing to myself. Don't get me wrong, I love to be able to switch my brain off and have a great time watching Aslan the Lion kill bad guys.

Elsewhere, director Collet-Serra had good intentions to make this a modern-day Murder on the Orient Express but the difference between these two is that Kenneth Branagh is able to keep it interesting as you're figuring out who did it. Whilst the Unknown and Non-Stop helmer did a great job of making me so bored I stopped caring.

I've had more excitement wondering if I'll be able to get my Southern Rail train and if it'll get me home.

Additionally, there are some shots he uses that are just bad and he loves a time laps and slow-mo more than Zack Snyder the difference is Snyder is brilliant at using slow-mo.

It's a shame this film bored me to death because this cast it had some potential with the Conjuring duo of Wilson and Farmiga and I'm slightly pissed Florence Pugh wasn't used more and holy crap Sam Neill's in this!?

Now Neeson has destroyed plenty of cars, planes and now a train, the final piece of transport is a bus which I expect will happen and announced shortly.

Verdict

A well-intentioned B action movie, but ultimately fails in being entertaining.
